Looking to get a friend interested in worlds of Warhammer without buying them a new army? GW has three boxed games for you to try.

Getting into Warhammer can be pretty daunting. There’s a lot to learn, buy, build, and paint to get the full experience. However, if you or a friend are just looking to dabble and get a feel for setting then Games Workshop has a trio of upcoming boxed games that are a lot more approachable.

“Many people love the idea of all of these fantastic games set in the worlds of Warhammer but don’t know where to start. Perhaps they’re daunted by the prospect of lengthy playtimes or complex rules, or maybe they’re intimidated by having to build and paint lots of models. If this is the case, look no further than the following titles – which have been designed to be easy to pick up and play.”

Blitz Bowl: Ultimate Edition

Blitz Bowl is basically the same game of Blood Bowl, only on a smaller scale. The idea is similar to playing a half-court game of Basketball with fewer players instead of a full-court game. In Blitz Bowl each team only has six players to manage and the pitch is shorter so the games are faster. The rules are also streamlined a bit more and the games are designed to be over in roughly 30 minutes.

With a Human and Skaven team included it’s great way to get in a game with a new friend without overloading them with all the rules. And, if they get into the game, jumping up to a full game of Blood Bowl is just short pass away!

Warhammer Quest: Lost Relics

Maybe you’re looking for a game that explores the Mortal Realms in a more cooperative manner. Warhammer Quest: Lost Relics pits four heroic Stormcast Eternals against a mysterious labyrinth controlled by the ominus Magister. In this dungeon delver you’re working together to uncover the secrets within and hopefully find a way out.

Games are designed for 1-4 players and yes, you can play solo if you choose. That makes this game great for new or younger players who want a taste of the action in a fast-paced dungeon diving adventure. The rules are closer to Warhammer Quest as opposed to Age of Sigmar so the leap to full-on tabletop battles is a much bigger journey. However, this game is a great gateway to other games like Warcry or Warhammer: Underworlds. If you want to dabble in Warhammer without commiting to a full-blown army this is a perfect option to do just that.

Combat Arena: Clash of Champions

The gloves come off in this arena combat game for 2-4 players. It’s a full on competitive arena experience where players are fighting to see who can be the last one standing in this miniatures combat game. Set in the grimdark future of Warhammer 40,000 this one pits four warriors against each other in a brutal arena.

The game comes with 4 miniatures and each one has their own unique attacks and playstyle. You’ll learn these accessible rules quick and have to adapt your tactics to defeat the other players if you want to make it out of the arena alive…

All three of these games are out now and available in big-box retail stores like Barnes & Noble. So even if you’re not close to a Warhammer Store or don’t have a FLGS nearby you’ve got options.

I might have to give Lost Relics a shot with some of my “non-gamer” friends…I think they might like that one.
