The most senior and powerful members of the Demon Slayer Corps are the Hashira. But who are these master swordsmen?

The third season of Demon Slayer started just a few weeks ago and has introduced two Hashira who we haven’t had a chance to get to know before. In the world of Demon Slayer the Hashira are the highest-ranking members of the Demon Slayer Corps and some of the most powerful warriors in the world. But each is very different both in terms of personality and their special abilities. So let’s review each of the current and recent leaders of the Demon Slayer Corps.

Mitsuri Kanroji – Love Hashira

We’ve met Mitsuri before, but we’re only just getting to know her this season. She is one of the most jovial and kind of the Hashira, and despite her rank, is shy and easily flustered. Mitsuri is one of the physically strongest members of the Demon Slayer Corps with a muscle density much higher than a normal human, as well as enhanced flexibility and all of the speed, stamina, and reflexes of the rest of the Hashira. Her fighting style is extra precise, and she uses a sword and techniques that are whip-like.

Muichiro Tokito – Mist Hashira

Muichiro is the other member of the Hashira, who we are only now getting to know in season three. Driving home the quiet tragedy of the Demon Slayer universe, Muichiro reminds us that even the most upper-rank members of the Demon Slayer Corp are very young, with his age of just fourteen years old. Probably as a direct result of his age, he is a little unfocused and doesn’t care for many people, causing him to come across as cold.

Shinobu Kocho – Insect Hashira

We’ve had some time to get to know Shinobu by now. In addition to being a powerful combatant, she is a skilled medic, and along with her Kanao and her also butterfly-themed assistants, she houses and nurses back to health injured members of the Demon Slayer Corps. As such, Tanjiro and the rest of the main cast have spent a lot of time in Shinobu’s home recovering from various missions.

Giyu Tomioka – Water Hashira

We have only spent a little time with Giyu. One of the most stoic and reserved members of the Hashira; his personality may still be a bit of a mystery to anime watchers who haven’t read the manga. But we do see early on that Giyu has a strong sense of justice and was willing to stand up for Tanjiro and Nezuko. As the Water Hashira, his powers and fighting style are similar – but more advanced and practiced – than the water breathing style we’ve seen from Tanjiro.

Obanai Iguro – Serpent Hashira

We have only briefly met Obani in passing so far, but he is known for her serpent-like appearance and usually bandaged lower face. He is cold, strict, merciless, and harsh and cares for few people, one of them being the Love Hashira, Mitsuri.

Sanemi Shinazugawa – Wind Hashira

Sameni is another member of the Hashira who we have not yet had a chance to get to know in the show. He has one of the shortest tempers in Demon Slayer Corps and is known for being rash, suborn, and impulsive. His wind-breathing technique can mimic cyclones and whirlwinds.

Gyomei Himejima – Stone Hashira

Easily the oldest member of the group, Gyomei towers over his fellow Hashira and acts like a mentor. He is also soft-spoken, gentle, and sensitive despite his intimidating appearance. That said, he is described by Tanjiro as the most powerful member of the Hashira, so his gentleness does not extend to battle against demons.

Kyojuro Rengoku – Flame Hashira

We got to know Rengoku in the Mugen Train movie and arc, where he quickly became a fan-favorite character. He is enthusiastic, friendly, and kind, and was immediately willing to help train Tanjiro in fire breathing technique.

Tengen Uzui – Sound Hashira

Tengen was one of the main characters in the Entertainment District arc. Aside from being a Hashira, he is a ninja with three ninja wives and almost limitless enthusiasm for flashiness. His fighting style allows him to weaponize sound waves.
