Star Wars: Visions Volume Two revealed a first look at the work of the nine new animation studios with a Celebration trailer reveal.

It was officially announced that Star Wars Visions would be receiving a second volume way back in May 2022. The hugely successful first volume featured a wide variety of anime studios from across Japan. And the result was an anthology of short, original stories with a uniquely Japanese spin. This was especially fitting considering how much inspiration for Star Wars was drawn from Japanese cinema in the first place.

Volume two will be an international project as animation studios from all around the world will contribute to the project. And some of the studios involved are responsible for some of our favorite animated shows and movies. This year’s Celebration revealed the show’s trailer as well as the May 4th release date. And some of the studios are instantly recognizable, even in this quick peek.

Star Wars: Visions Volume Two

Each of the shorts in Visions has been entirely written and produced by different studios in different corners of the world. So just like in volume one, there probably won’t be any plot throughlines or crossover. In fact, it’s likely that- also just like volume one- the canonical status of these episodes will be questionable at best. Making this a show that’s uniquely just for fun.

But through the trailer, it seems that a common theme in many of these shorts will be one of resistance and standing up to evil as well as youngsters or less experienced users of the Force.

And of course, every studio’s work looks absolutely gorgeous. There isn’t a single snippet shown in the trailer that doesn’t leave me excited to binge this show in May.

The Studios Involved

Nine studios are working on Star Wars: Visions Volume Two. And there’s a good chance you’re already familiar with their work.

D’Art Shtajio is producing The Pit. This Tokyo-based Black-owned studio was founded in 2016 and has had projects ranging from a music video with The Weekend to work on Attack on Titan and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.

Sith will be produced by Madrid-based El Guiri Studios and Rodrigo Blass. Blass is known for his work on Trollhunters, WALL-E, and Up.

Cartoon Saloon is an Irish studio that is probably most well known for Wolf Walkers, but Song of the Sea was nominated for an Academy Award. They’ll be lending their gorgeous and very recognizable art style to Screecher’s Reach.

Chile-based studio, Punkrobot is known for its very cute 3D style. They’ve made an episode In The Stars.

Studio Mir out of South Korea is known for their work on Avatar: Legend of Korra, Kipo and the Age of the Wonderbeasts, and Voltron: Legendary Defender. Their episode is Journey into the Dark Head.

The Spy Dancer will be the Visions episode by French studio, Studio La Cachette. You’ll recognize their work from Genny Tartakovsky’s Primal and the episode Sucker of Souls on Love Death + Robots.

You probably noticed the iconic Wallace and Gromit-style claymation. That would be Aardman, the UK-based studio responsible for Wallace and Gromit and their Star Wars short, I Am Your Mother.

Triggerfish is a South African studio whose work you may not be familiar with just yet. But they’re also working on another anthology for Disney+ called Kizasi Moto. Their Visions short is Aau’s Song.

Finally, 88 Pictures is the studio out of India that animated Guillermo Del Toro’s TrollHunters, 3 Below, and Wizards. Their episode is called Bandits of Golak.
