The Tyranid Prime is getting a noticeable evolution in style. Say hello to the new model of the Winged Tyranid Prime!

Games Workshop is pulling even more models from the Warhammer 40,000: 10th Edition trailer. The Winged Tyranid Prime is coming to a tabletop in 10th!

“The Hive Mind has understood that simply walking up to your enemies sometimes won’t cut it. So it has had a little Hive Mind think about it and come up with a hive-style solution: wings!”

Winged Tyranid Prime

The Tyranid Prime’s new model features a pair of wings and what looks a whole lot like scything talons. Unfortunately, we don’t have any stats but that’s okay! What we’re curious about is how this kit will be built and if there will be other options. It’s nice to finally have wings as a part of the Tyranid Prime’s options. Personally, I’m hoping for some ranged options to go with the wings…

One other thing about this model is that it really reminds me of the ghoulish Crypt Flayers from the Flesh-eater Courts of Age of Sigmar:

I blame the poses and the wings. It’s also interesting to me that GW opted to keep this model’s wings somewhat contained on the base and that the Tyranid Prime is sort of “grounded” in nature. You’d think that with the wings it would be flying or in the air but I also kind of like that the model is not that vertical for game-play reasons.

Tyranid Warrior Speculation

The Tyranid Warriors that the Prime is based off of have had a mixed history with wings. Some editions they had the option. Some editions that was removed (probably because of a lack of official Games Workshop models). Now we have a Winged Tyranid Prime. Does that mean a new Winged Tyranid Warrior Kit is on the way?

The Tyranid Warrior kit did get some new weapon options the last time the kit got updated but the base body was essentially the same. Since the Tyranids are getting a bit of a model refresh to their line it wouldn’t be shocking if that particular kit got a rework to match the new Prime, too.

What do you think of the new Winged Tyranid Prime?
