Cryptozoic Entertainment announced a new Adventure Time TTRPG late last week, bringing the magic of Ooo to your tabletop.

Adventure Time aka the show whose songs were stuck in your head for the better part of the 2010s, is best known for its high-color hijinks. Jake the Dog and Finn the Human explored the land of Ooo, discovering new weapons, dungeons, and monsters all the way. With its mystery temples and burning lands, the inspiration it took from tabletop RPGs is clear.

And now, Adventure Time is giving that inspiration right back in the form of its own RPG. That’s right. Soon you’ll be able to gather your friends and delve into the surprisingly progressive and playfully violent world of Adventure Time, presumably as a part of Pendleton Ward and Rebecca Sugar’s quest to make us all just that much gayer.

Adventure Time TTRPG Announced

Cryptozoic Entertainment made the announcement late last week, stating a partnership with Forever Stoked Creative to develop Adventure Time: the Roleplaying Game. This will culminate in a Kickstarter Campaign launching “soon.” At the heart of the game, a mechanic anyone familiar with improv will know well: “Yes, And”.

Based on Cartoon Network’s Emmy and Peabody Award-winning animated series, Adventure Time, this innovative roleplaying game offers an immersive and accessible experience for both novice players and seasoned RPG enthusiasts ages 12 and up. At the heart of the Adventure Time: The Roleplaying Game is the “Yes And” game mechanic, developed in partnership with Forever Stoked Creative. The “Yes And” system determines success and failure via a custom set of dice, while encouraging collaborative storytelling and ensuring that players are always engaged. The game’s intuitive storytelling approach will eliminate the need for complex calculations and allow players to focus on the narrative itself.

How the game will go about “encouraging collaborative storytelling” remains a mystery as of yet. But Cryptozoic states that the game will allow players to get “as silly as heartfelt as they please.” Players can create their own characters, or use pre-generated character sheets that give life to fan favorites like Marceline and Princess Bubblegum.

Now to go figure out which of Adventure Time’s sweet, haunting songs will inflict the most heartfelt joy and trauma at the same time.
