Games Workshop has just dropped the Munitorum Field Manual that includes all the points for units for Warhammer 40,000. Start playing 10th!

Well there’s nothing holding you back now.  The Core Rules are available. The Indexes are out. And today we’ve got the Munitorum Field Manual so you can build your army based on the points costs and dive right in!

“Within the new Munitorum Field Manual, you’ll find the complete list of points values for each faction as well as the Enhancements offered by each faction’s first Detachment. Download it below, and start mustering your army for a new phase of galactic war.”

This document is pretty simple and straightforward as there isn’t much in here beyond the point values you’d expect as well as the number of models in the unit.

But this is an exciting day for Warhammer 40,000 fans as they can now bust out their armies and work out just how many units they can take with the points provided.

Game Changes You Might Notice

Going through the points you might notice a few things. First up, you aren’t going to be buying individual models for units, instead units are purchases in increments. You might notice from the example above you can buy a Zephyrim Squad of either 5 models at 70 points or 10 models at 140 points.

Now you can still end up with some funky unit sizes when you start adding in leader units to, well, lead those squads. So keep that in mind when building your forces.

Additionally you might also notice that paying points for Wargear and/or weapon options is just gone now. According to Robin from the Studio:

“The points cost of a unit’s weapons and wargear are now incorporated into the cost of that unit – there’s no longer any need to count up all the individual weapon loadouts and do a bunch of arithmetic just to determine the total points cost of one individual unit. This makes mustering an army much simpler, and much quicker. It also frees people to make the units they’ve always wanted to, using all the coolest bits found on the kits without having to worry about spiralling points costs.”

This certainly does make list building simpler with easy math to assemble an army. Plus now you can just take all the cool bits and bobs on the unit that are on the datasheet or that were included in the model’s box and not worry about if those 5 points are going to make your list invalid.

There’s also a Rules Commentary that absolutely worth a download. You’re going to want to review these for some of the strange situations that inevitably come up while playing Tabletop Wargames.

There are some interesting rules clarifications in there for sure. The flying rules are going to be a “thing” for sure.

I’m not even going to get into this right now.

How Can I Play Without the Mission?

There’s a very basic mission in the Core Rules – Only War – that you can play to get you started. Sure, we don’t have the mission cards, gambits, and such — but this is the most basic “slugfest” mission out there (and the only one for now). So just give that a go to test out the rules and your army since you have points to play with!

So grab those points, your Army Index, and start building Army lists!
