The Psychophage is a new Tyranid Monster coming to the tabletop but what will it do in 10th? Eat your Psykers!

The Leviathan Box set is introducing a lot of new units and one of the ones we’re excited about is the new Tyranid Psychophage. It’s a deadly creatures with a creepy maw that’s designed for devouring things. However, it’s favorite snack is enemy Psykers.

“The Shadow in the Warp used to be enough to deal with enemy psykers, but with the onset of the Age of Witches, many of them have now been blessed by the Emperor/the Dark Gods/Gork and Mork (delete as appropriate). What is the Hive Mind to do? Why, it’s time to unleash the Psychophage and end the supply of mind bullets forever.”

To kick things off we’ve got the deadly melee attacks from the Psychophage. While the basic profile is enough to give a Primaris Marine pause what really makes Psykers worried is the Anti-Psykers 2+ as well as the Devastating Wounds rules. Those two rules do stack which means you’re causing mortal wounds to Psykers on a to-wound roll of 2+. That’s a potential 14 mortal wounds that will nom nom nom Psykers!

But that’s not the only set of attacks the Psychophage has. It can also shoot with it’s Psychoclastic Torrent!

This is basically some kinda of Psychic flamer. But it’s Strength 6 and AP -1. Not too shabby for picking off targets in cover either! And if you can drop a unit to below it’s Starting Strength with this shot then you’ll be able to follow up with it’s melee attack with increase efficiency.

If the unit is below Half-strength the Psychophage now wounds them with a +1 to the roll as well. I’m a little surprised by how effective this thing will be vs general infantry. The Psychophage might be the apex predator against Psykers but with a little bit of Tyranid back-up it’s going to be just as effective against almost everything else!

Who rang the dinner bell and invited the Tyranids!?
