Games Workshop is talking shop in the latest Metawatch. There’s a new General’s Handbook and big points changes in the Battlescroll update.

It’s official — The next season of the General’s Handbook is upon us this weekend and with that a slew of rules updates and points changes are coming. If you have the time the Metawatch is certainly worth a watch.

Age of Sigmar Metawatch

As you can probably guess, this season is all about the wizards. There are loads of new magical tools in the General’s Handbook, including Primal MagicRealm Magic, and the Nullstone Adornments you will need to put a stop to all these arcane shenanigans. The guys also touch on the other gameplay matters contained within the book.

As you can tell this is a fairly meaty Metawatch video. It needs to be! The new General’s Handbook is going to be around for a whole year! It’s going to guide competitive play and thematic play for 12 months. I hope you like wizards because that’s going to be a dominant factor.

Personally, I do have some concerns about this season. For one, it’s going to be a really long season and that could lead to the meta getting stale after a few months. I haven’t read through the new GHB but I do hope the missions and Battle Tactics are good. Another concern I have is making magic-focused armies even stronger because of the focus on wizards this season. You would hope that outside of the seasonal rules magic-heavy armies would fair and balanced. So what about during a season where they are getting some extra boosts?

Seraphon are looking poised to be a real powerhouse in this season. There’s a few other armies that can pump out the magic, too — so expect those to rise to the top in the meta.

Battlescroll Updates

The other big news today is the arrival of the new Battlescroll update. Thankfully, this is still going to be a recurring update every quarter for the new season. There’s some major changes and a lot of points updates in the new Battlescroll. One of my personal favorites is the change to unit coherency for 2 to 6 model units:

This is great news for all those 3 man units out there that can reinforce up to 6. Now you don’t have to worry about some janky formation — you can just lineup as long as each model is with 1″ of another model in the unit. There’s also a few other universal changes to core rules as well:

On top of these changes there’s also a few army specific ones. We won’t get into all those but you can download the latest Battlescroll update and see them all for yourself.

Additional, there’s a flurry of points updates with just about every army getting some tweaks. There’s three pages of points changes with the majority of them being drops. There are a few that got a points bump as well — but check the full points tweaks in the new Battlescroll update yourself.

There’s lots of change coming to AoS. Are you excited or concerned about the new season?
