Games Workshop is taking a close look at the newest Solar Auxilia Unit in the Horus Heresy with Aethon Heavy Sentinels.

Legions Imperialis isn’t just recreating old units in the new epic scale. It’s also creating some brand new ones that we haven’t seen before. Today GW is showcasing the upcoming Aethon Heavy Sentinels for the Solar Auxilia.

“A combination of speed, mobility, and firepower makes the Aethon a popular vehicle for reconnaissance and flanking manoeuvres, allowing squadrons to race through dense terrain and hit slower tanks in their vulnerable sides.”

Aethon Heavy Sentinel

These are more than just gunned-up Sentinel walkers from the Astra Militarum. These were first deployed in the Heresy-era and brought a lot of firepower in a fast package. They had enough speed and damage output to keep up with other fast flankers like Legion Outriders or Scimitar jet bikes as well. This made them a valuable asset for the Solar Auxilia in the fight against the Space Marine Legions.

Speaking of firepower, what exactly are these combat-walkers packing?

“Where a regular Sentinel might pack a single flamer, autocannon, or even a plasma cannon, the Aethon carries an entire arsenal into battle without compromising its signature mobility. The one-two punch of a powerful multi-laser and an impressive missile battery let the Sentinel’s pilot duke it out with infantry and lightly armoured targets – though the thick armour of a battle tank would still give them pause for thought.”

Yep, it’s got the firepower for engaging other lightly armored vehicles or threatening Infantry squads. It’s going to prove to be a very useful asset in Legion Imperialis games for sure.

The first crack at these new walkers will be in the Legions Imperialis starter box. That said, I do wonder how long it will be before we see a upscaled version for the Solar Auxilia in the Horus Heresy…
