‘Napoleon’ – Ridley Scott’s New Historical Epic is Filled with Massive Battles

Ridley Scott returns to theaters with Joaquin Phoenix and a new look at Napoleon’s life – and the massive military battles he fought.

Ridley Scott’s latest focuses on the rise of Napoleon Bonaparte’s rise in power. The French military commander and political led campaigns during the Revolutionary Wars that led to victories and his becoming the Emperor of France in 1804. Instead of just being focused on the battles and politics, this movie’s narrative is led by Napoleon‘s relationship with Joséphine de Beauharnais, the love of his life.

The pair married in 1796 and parted in 1810 due to concerns of the state not for lack of devotion.

Ridley Scott’s Napoleon – First Trailer

While the story it sits on is one of romance, the first trailer focuses on the revolution. It shows multiple large battle scenes – including Toulon, the Battle of Embabeh, Austalitz, Moscow, and Waterloo. As well as scenes from the Reign of Terror and Napolean firing grapeshot at a Royalist uprising.

Napoleon Cast & Details

Joaquin Phoenix is Napoleon Bonaparte and Vanessa Kirby is Empress Josephine. They’re joined by Ludivine Sagnier, Ben Miles, Tahar Rahim, Youssef Kerkour, Paul Rhys, Matthew Needham, John Hollingworth, Edouard Philipponnat as Tsar Alexander, and Catherine Walker as Marie-Antoinette. The movie is directed by Ridley Scott from a screenplay by David Scarpa.

Napoleon is a spectacle-filled action epic that details the checkered rise and fall of the iconic French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, played by Oscar-winner Joaquin Phoenix. Against a stunning backdrop of large-scale filmmaking orchestrated by legendary director Ridley Scott, the film captures Bonaparte’s relentless journey to power through the prism of his addictive, volatile relationship with his one true love, Josephine, showcasing his visionary military and political tactics against some of the most dynamic practical battle sequences ever filmed.

Napoleon debuts in theaters on November 22nd.
