Warhammer 40K Meta Hotness – All Hail the GSC Neophyte Hybrid

GSC Neophyte Hybrids are one of the Troop choices for the Genestealer cults. They are this week’s new 10th Edition 40K Meta hotness!

This time around will not bring up some Aeldari nonsense as we all know it is good.  Instead let’s go to the 2nd place rough list out there with the Genestealer Cults.  I get the feeling the only thing keeping this army from not showing up as much is just due to its size and costs.  But let’s talk about why these guys are good eh?

Neophyte Hybrids are one of the troop choices for the Genestealer cults.  This means the unit can come back with their Cult Ambush options guaranteed.  I think they should rethink that a bit – but hey free stuff is amazing.  Will talk about it more in their write up but let’s dive into the bowels of the hive world and start to worship the 4 armed emperor while covering ourselves in delicious BBQ sauce.

Free Neophyte Hybrids are Amazing!

I talked a bit about Cult Ambush but the basic rule is when a unit with this rules dies – it doesn’t really die.  You get to roll a d6 with a +3 if it is a Battleline unit.  On a 4+ it gets to go back into strategic reserves and show up outside a little Cult Ambush marker you put on the table top after that unit dies.  That marker has to be 9” away from the enemy so yes you can block it out but it is also very hard.  So yeah – you get to regrow your army for free over and over until the game ends which is pretty dange amazing.

Free Wargear… Whaaa?!

That’s right this unit is fully loaded out at 20 models, tons of guns, and other fun bits.  You are giving it everything like it won the Lotto so you can always have the “right” weapon for the job.  Or really just 4 more mining lasers to blow holes into the enemy.  Pretty nutty to see a unit just never go away right?

Neophyte Hybrids Shoot Pretty Good!

These guys also get the whole “They Came from Below” rule from the detachment that gives all their guns Sustained Hits 1 and Ignores Cover.  That is pretty nutty with again a ton of good shooting you can dump into a unit.  In some ways I bet they would rather have Lethal Hits sometimes but hey some armies can’t get everything like Aeldari can.

Score Locked Missions like no One’s Business!

This army also just loves having locked in tactical missions due to being able to show up all over them place and kill things pretty easily.  Most of the other armies are having to work on the whim of their App (Tabletop Battles) or their shuffle skills.  Having the ability to lock your score in seems pretty dang good.

A Sample Army

Justin Jansen got 3rd place with the following list at The Alpine Grand Tournament.  You can see he has a ton of Neophyte Hybrids as well as Acolyte Hybrids to abuse the whole – coming back all the time nonsense you can do with the GSC.

GSC02 (2000 points)
Genestealer Cults
Strike Force (2000 points)
Ascension Day

All hail the four-armed Emperor, and enter His loving embrace!
