Games Workshop showed off the new Tyranid wave coming and the ‘Vores got the best new look of the batch compared to the old models. By FAR.

Don’t get me wrong I think all the new Tyranids look awesome. The new Genestealers and Gaunts models look great and I’m super glad they got a refresh. Same with the Lictors and their new options. And of course the NEW units of the Norns look fantastic — even if I have some mixed feelings about their battlefield roles. However, I think the big winner from the units that got a refresh has to be the ‘Vore models. The Pyrovore and the Biovore got the best Glow Ups, chitin hands down!

Biovore Comparison

Let’s just take a quick look at the old/current models and then the new ones so we’re all on the same page.

Here’s the old/current Biovore model. While I do like the fact that it’s got a goofy look that it supposedly inherited from the Ork biomass it was evolved from it’s still kinda small. It’s also pretty dated doesn’t quite fit the rest of the Tyranid design. Sure it’s got the symbiotic weapon on top and it’s served dutifully for a long time…but man, compared to the newer stuff it just didn’t fit in anymore.

The new one looks WAY larger. It’s now a lot more tick-like and looks more like the other Tyranids in the model range. Plus it’s bio-weapon symbiote no longer has uh…a “feature” that’s kind of questionable. Anyhow, the upscaled base is also going to give this model more prominence on the tabletop, too. I’m a little conflicted about the Spore Mines as I liked the different styles of the old ones. However, it also makes sense that those would look more uniform. So I’ll call that a wash.

Regardless, the new Biovore is a huge improvement over the old one. It’s also in plastic which just beats the current resin stuff by miles.

Pyrovore Comparison

I mean, do we really even need to do this? Sure. I guess let’s go there. Here’s the old/current model:

Ugh. Sorry not a fan and never have been. This was one model that I never wanted in my Tyranid collection and I’m 1000% glad I never picked one up. I know it got better ruleswise in an effort to get people to buy this model but c’mon. And look, we can make a bunch of anatomical jokes about a certain male member but I’m just going to skip that step. We’ve been cracking the same jokes about this model since it was introduced. Let’s just move on.

While I’m still getting tick-vibes this new Pyrovore is giving me more scorpion vibes with the “tail” looking more curved. This one looks a lot more intimidating and way more mobile that the previous incarnation. I could totally see these scuttling across the board spewing flaming bio-acid on the enemy. This is a model I’d welcome to my Tyranid collection and wouldn’t even think twice about it!

Normally I try to be diplomatic about people’s likes and dislikes when it comes to models. “If you like the old models, good for you” type stuff. But no. Not this time. If you like the old Pyrovore over the new one you’re wrong. Don’t @me because we’re just going to have to agree to disagree here. The end.

Do you think the ‘Vores got the best Glow Up from the updated models or did you have a unit you liked better?
