AoS: It’s Krumpin’ Time! – 3 Things the New Orruks Need

The biggest boyz in Age of Sigmar are getting an update soon, and there are a few things that will truly make the Orruk Warclans the strongest there is.

While not at the same level of evil as Nagash or Archaon, the Orruk Warclans are still a viable threat to the forces of Order in the Realms. Following in the massive hoofprints of Kragnos, the forces of Destruction might be the biggest barrier to Sigmar’s Dawnbringer expansion. However, the Orruks are a little underwhelming compared to how they’re described. Sure, there are three unique clans, but it doesn’t feel like the deadly threat that the Orruks are claimed to represent.

Thankfully, right on the heels of the new Cities of Sigmar is an Orruk update. We’ve seen a few of the previews already, and they look incredible. A new foot leader and a massive pig monster are just a few of the new Orruk dishes on offer, and they’re just the tip of the iceberg. Even with all the exciting previews, there are a few things I’m hoping we see in the new book.

More Bonesplitterz Mages

I love the Bonesplitterz; they’re some of the most dynamic models in the Orruk range (considering their age), and their lore is hilarious. I love the idea of naked Orruks covered in magical tattoos hunting the giant monsters of Ghur. However, for a group focused on their magical tattoos their mages are…subpar. While I’d love a flat update to the Shamans (especially the Prophet), I’d really love a few new casters. Maybe letting Savage Orruks cast or unbind a preloaded spell while they have enough bodies in their unit. To be honest, though, I just want a new Prophet model; I’m pretty sure the current one is almost old enough to drink.

A “Big Guy” for Bonesplitterz

I know I already raised some gripes about the Bonesplitterz, but honestly, this one is more heinous. Both the Ironjawz and Kruleboyz have a massive centerpiece in the Maw-Krusha and the Corpse-Rippa Vulcha, respectively. However, the Bonesplitterz, the clan famed for hunting big monsters, has nothing of the sort. This feels like a crime; these guys should have a creature they’ve mugged and chained into service or a giant lizard they’ve developed a symbiotic relationship with. While it’s probably a reach, I’d love for the hunters to get something to draw the eye because the small-based army does a disservice to the Bonesplitterz name.

A Reason to Take Big Waaagh!

While each of the Orruk clans has its strengths and drawbacks, Big Waaagh! is meant to be the perfect combo of the three. Even with all the buffs, though, there’s really no reason to take BW over one of the more focused clans. The Waaagh! table doesn’t offer buffs that outweigh what you’re giving up without focusing, and even though the new generic artifacts mitigate the loss of book items, they aren’t good enough to miss out on the clan tables. I’m hoping the new book will offer a more convincing argument for triple-dipping, or that it does away with the combo altogether.
