Games Workshop is showcasing a few units from the Space Marine in Legions Imperialis with our first look at their unit stats!

Earlier this week we got our first taste of the Legions Imperialis Rules. Today we’re digging a little deeper into the core of the game with some unit stats. We’ve got Terminators, Tanks, and a fan favorite aircraft to check out. Buckle up for some Epic Scale fun.

Space Marines bring mobile heavy infantry and hard-hitting tanks to the fray. Like everyone, their models are deployed in Detachments, groups of models whose stats are represented by datasheets. As well as the Legions Imperialis Rulebook, these can be found in helpful decks of Detachment Cards – which list the Detachment’s points cost, standard size, and any upgrades you can add on one side, and their stats, weapon profiles, and special rules on the other. You use the first side when building the army, and the other while playing.

Legiones Astartes Unit Stats

Legion Terminator Detachment

Statwise, we’ve got all the basics now. They have a movement of 5″ with an armor save of 4+. They also have a CAF (or Close Assault Factor) of +4. Now, if you missed the breakdown of how that works, the CAF is a modifier to a 2d6 close combat attack roll. So the higher the number the more effective the unit is in close combat.

Terminators also have a morale of 3+ and a single wound. We also get a look at their ranged weapons as well. We got a bit of the rules on the weapons earlier this week, too.

One last thing to note about the Terminators and unit sizes: one “model” is referring to one stand of Terminators. So when it says “consists of 4 Legion Terminator models” that means 4 bases worth of Terminators.

Legion Kratos Squadron

Here we have the Kratos Squadron. It’s got a move of 8″ with a 2+ save and a CAF of +3. Yep! These tanks will crush things under their tread. They also have a Morale of 3+ and a wounds stat of 2.

As you can see from their weapon list they have quite a few options. Those options also have a ton of traits that we don’t quite know exactly what they do (but you could probably make some educated guesses based on other GW games). We also get a look at how the squadron is compiled. It’s interested in to note that these tanks get “cheaper” the more you add to the squad.

Legion Thunderhawk Gunship

If there ever was a game that was going to use the combined arms of infantry, tanks, aircraft, and Titans then Legions Imperialis is that game! We get a look at Thunderhawk Gunship and you can tell that it’s going to be one of the faster options in the game. With a move of 25″ it’s going to be able to fly where it needs to! It also has a 2+ save and an unsurprisingly low CAF of +0. It’s not winning an assault unless you roll really hot. It has no Morale either and has a wounds stat of 2.

You can also see the array of weapons it will have access to. It should put out some pretty good firepower and be a nice mobility options for your army. Note that it DOES have a transport capacity of 8 as well. That’s the perfect amount for dropping off Terminators…

“Respectively, these rules mean it can cross huge distances while ignoring terrain, it can stay on the battlefield between turns, and it can deliver up to eight Bulky troops (such as Terminators) into the heart of combat, and it allows them a Charge Order (which many Tranports do not).”

Legion Special Rules

As an added bonus we also get a first look at a few of the Space Marine Legion Special Rules, too.

Unsurprisingly the White Scars have a bonus to their Jink saves. Very fitting.

Also unsurprisingly the World Eaters are getting a boost to their close combat with a free re-roll for their Fight Dice. Note that it’s only a single D6 that gets the re-roll.

The Salamanders get to roll 2D6 for their Morale checks and choose the result they want. That could be quite handy! Additionally, they also get the Implacable special rule, too.

For the most part, these rules should be pretty clear for anyone who’s played any GW games before. When you combine these rules with the general principles you can start to get a pretty good idea how the game will work. I can’t wait to give this one a propper go!

What Legion are you looking forward to playing?
