Take a look at some new Space Marine units we hope to see get announced at the NOVA Open.

Next week sees the NOVA Open take place. It’s one of the largest 40K events in North America and a highlight of the season. GW also has a habit of announcing some new things along with it. This year they are having a slew of seminars to showcase upcoming stuff. The last big event like this was Adepticon, which saw 10th Edition announced. So what big thing are we going to get announced this time? Well, we can’t know everything, but if I was a betting man I’d guess we will get some big reveals on the soon upcoming Space Marine Codex and the new units coming alongside it. So let’s take a look at what new units we’d like to see shown off.

Assault Intercessor With Jump packs

There have been rumors of Primaris Jump Marines coming out soon for three editions now. However, we’ve yet to see this fabled unit hit the table. There are a few Primaris units with jump packs, but they are all ranged (with the exception of Shrike). So why do we think they are coming now, and why do we want them? Well, GW announced that regular Assault Marines with and without Jump Packs are moving to legends or can be used as Vanguard Vets. This leaves a hole in the Marine lineup as the only jump pack assault troops aren’t Battleline. This is the perfect time for GW to put out a new Jump Pack unit.

New Scouts

Our reasoning here is pretty similar to the jump packs. GW announced that all the old classic Scouts are going away. It seems likely they need some kind of replacement. Now this is kind of an odd issue, however. While getting rid of Scouts does leave a hole in the lineup it’s not what you think. The role of Scouts, sneaky/scouts troops is pretty well filled by various Phobos units in the army. However, lore-wise there is now no unit for the new/trainee Marines to go into. Some armies, such as Black Templars make a lot of these guys. So while we don’t need an exact replacement for Scouts we do want a thematic replacement unit.

The Better Ballistus

The Marine book is already super full of units and datasheets. They don’t actually really need many, or any, more units. One of the things we’d really like to see is some of the existing units get a bit better and more flexible. A great example of this is the Ballistus Dreadnought. It’s basically replacing the old shoot-y dreads that are going away. However, the version we have now is the easy-to-build one from the launch box and doesn’t come with any options. We’re hoping it is going to get its own full release with a better box and a bunch of cool weapon options.

Some Bike Love

Outriders are a unit that have seen a bit of play and do have their own standalone box. However, as Goatboy has pointed out, they are not in a great spot right now and have no real options. On top of this, the older classic Bike units are going away. This leaves Marine Bikes is a pretty boring spot. They now don’t really have a lot of units to take with any variety or much punch. We’d really like a new Outrider box with more weapon options and upgrades. Or perhaps an additional new Bike unit, maybe Assault Outriders or something.

More Different-er Lieutenants

It’s not really a Space Marine Codex without a new type of LT, is it? Maybe a bike or jump pack one? It would fulfill the meme and be a good fit for the army.
