Warhammer 40K: Darktide has a big new patch coming down the pipe, eyeing the Mission Board and rewarding quickplay a little more.

Patch 12 for Warhammer 40K: Darktide will take players into the Maelstrom, and more literally than you’d think because one of the big things they’re adding is Maelstrom Missions. What does that mean, exactly?

In a nutshell, these are new mission types with piled-on modifiers, both new and existing ones that will make for a greater challenge. But, missions are only part of the changes—one of the other biggest changes is an adjustment to matchmaking, adjusting the way that players might find a larger pool of players to connect with.

Warhammer 40K: Darktide – Patch 12, Maelstrom Missions And More

Mission difficulty is at the heart of the new patch. As mentioned, the new patch adds Maelstrom Missions, which mix up modifiers to up the difficulty. Of course, with greater risk comes greater reward. Maelstrom Missions have better payouts with XP and Ordo Dockets.

But if you really want to turn the difficulty up, FatShark is adding a further bump: Auric-level Operations. Auric-level Operations are high difficulty missions that always have a condition of some kind applied to them. Of course, you have to be level 30 to play, but they promise unique conditions, with a particular focus on “High Intensity” conditions.

What good are more challenging missions if you can’t find anyone to play with, though?

FatShark wants to address that via some changes to Matchmaking and by offering up some new Quickplay Incentives. The Quickplay incentives will up the rewards you get for filling in an empty spot for a strike team. Meanwhile Matchmaking gets some updated changes:

For further flexibility with the matchmaking system we have added the ability to set the servers used to matchmake with. Darktide has always used the best latency servers you can connect to for matchmaking, however we realise that some players in the world may need to connect to different servers in order to find a larger pool of players. In addition, we regularly review and update matchmaking rules to provide an improved matchmaking experience.

Good luck in Tertium, rejects!
