ATTENTION Guardsman! Take a look at all the best units Forge World/Imperial Armor adds to the Imperial Guard.

Warhammer 40K 10th Edition has seen a lot of units cut out of the game. In particular, a ton of units from Forge World got moved to Legends rather than being in the normal Imperial Armour books. However, the stalwart fighters of the Astra Militarum got to keep a ton of these units. Many, if not most, have been nerfed to the point of not being worth it. But there remains a few nice gems. Let’s take a look at which are the best to include in your army.

5. Death Korps Marshal

Right off the bat, we’ve got a great unit in the Death Korps Marshal. Giving a whole big Guard Squad a 5+ FNP is pretty great, especially when coupled with a 4++ save they can get elsewhere. The Marshal also hands out orders and is a great way to sneak those in. They are a super useful and versatile unit that just fits into the army well.

4. Earthshaker Carriage Battery

Do you want more big powerful indirect-fire weapons in your army? Well, this is how you get them. The Earthshaker Carriage helps you get around the rule of  three by acting as a slightly different, and cheaper, Basilisk. It comes with the same great gun and can also slow the enemy down, but is a little worse and weaker. It’s still a great option for cramming in more heavy firepower to your list. In addition, because it has the Regiment keyword it’s very easy to give orders to them, and they can even be brought back to life!

3. Medusa Carriage Battery

Like the Earthshaker Battery, the Medusa is another way to get some extra heavy firepower in your army. Unlike the Earthshaker it doesn’t double up on another main Index unit, instead bringing it’s own thing to the take. While it has less range and shots than the Earthshaker it does pack a greater punch and can even go after some vehicles. Its ability to force battleshock tests is probably not very good most of the time. But still… nifty?

Malcador Infernus

The Infernus is in the running for best Forge World tank thanks to a couple of key things it brings to the table. At its current 235 pts, it’s pretty cheap. It is only slightly more expensive than a Leman Russ and lower than the other mid-range tanks. However, it’s still pretty sturdy, gaining 5 wounds on a Russ. It also has a good save and Toughness. While it lacks much heavy firepower its Inferno Gun is good. It’s one of the longer-ranged torrent weapons in the game, and it’s a pretty good MEQ killer. This long-range and auto-hitting also makes it a pretty solid target for Overwatch. This lets it threaten a decent part of the table with auto-hits. Combine that with a chance to shoot-on-death and the Malcador Infernus can get to fire its gun, with auto-hit, a lot more than other units would.

1. Rapier Laser Destroyer Battery

If you need to cram a bit more anti-tank into your army, this is a great choice. The Rapier Laser Destroyer Battery clocks in at a pretty low 90 pts. making it a good option for extra Lascannon shots. While it’s 30 pts more than a Heavy Weapons Squad, it is both more durable and has twice the lascannon shots. It also re-rolls wounds. Again because it is a Regiment it’s very easy to give it orders and even bring the unit back. Under orders and without moving, it’s hitting on 3+ with 6 lascannon shots that re-roll wounds. In some editions of 40K, that would be amazing! But even in 10th its OK. I think I’d take them over Lascnnon HWSs any day.
