Cyberpunk 2077 is incredible now, thanks to the new update 2.0 ahead of the upcoming Phantom Liberty DLC. Check it out.

Cyberpunk 2077 has been one of the most roller-coaster ride games of all times. When it launched, the community felt the weight of the hype come crashing down. And honestly, the game that released wasn’t finished, not by a long shot. It wasn’t until almost a year later, that the game felt better.

And thanks to the timely release of an amazing anime, Cyberpunk Edgerunners, the franchise got a much much needed shot in the arm. And now, the latest update for the game shows what happens when you try not to appease shareholders, but instead just take your time and put in the work.

Spoiler alert, it’s real good times.

Cyberpunk 2077 – Update 2.0

Cyberpunk 2077, Update 2.0 touches on so many aspects of the game. There’s a massive combat overhaul, a whole new cyberware system, new Netrunning things—the game is a far cry from where it was back when it released. 2023 is the year Cyberpunk 2077 became what the devs wanted.

You can see the results of a lot of hard work, and creative effort. The new systems play extremely well, and hew a lot closer to the tabletop rules. It’s so extensive that the developers recommend you just start a whole new playthrough, which is exactly what I’m going to do.

Here’s a taste of what’s new.

  • The NCPD will chase you and will adapt their behavior to throw in vehicles and roadblocks now.
  • You can fight from a vehicle, using pistols and submachine guns, as well as melee combat from motorcycles, and mounted weapons on certain vehicles
  • Tires can be shot or slashed
  • NPCs with Sandevistans can activate theirs to counter yours
  • Netrunning works faster, since you can now use Health if you have insufficient RAM, and you can use multiple Quickhacks on a single enemy

And that’s just a quick taste.

Perks and Skills

The meat and potatoes of the change is in the new Perks & Skills system. There are fewer perks overall, but each perk changes gameplay in a much more meaningful way. Five new skills exist now: Headhunter, Netrunner, Shinobi, Solo, and Engineer. They are not restricted by Attribute level, so you can really go for the playstyle you want.

As far as Cyberware goes, it’s the new primary source of armor. Clothing is there for fashion only. No more wearing the sad pants and having to go back through your transmogrified outfits to figure out what looks right. Cyberware also is now all attuned to a specific attribute, and there are changes to how much cyberware your body can handle before you start having… effects from it.

Good luck in Night City, Chooms. And say hey to Jackie when you start that new playthrough.
