Legions Imperialis: Drop Pods Coming To Epic Scale

If you were wondering how all your epic scale Space Marines were going to get to the fight now we know: Drop Pods!

Those tiny Space Marines in Legions Imperialis have a lot of ground to cover to get into position on the tabletop. Thankfully, Games Workshop has confirmed a new weapon in the arsenal for the Legionaries with epic scale Drop Pods.

“The Legiones Astartes utilise a number of methods of deployment into hostile war zones – but none are more iconic than the Drop Pod assault. Each pod is a self-contained orbital descent capsule, launched from a spacecraft and searing through a planet’s atmosphere before retro jets fire to slow its descent just enough not to be obliterated upon impact with the surface. Upon landing, a deadly cargo of Space Marines charges directly into the heart of battle.”

Legions Imperialis Drop Pods

These epic scale Drop Pods will come in two flavors. You’ve got the traditional Drop Pods that carry Space Marines down from orbit to the battlefield. The other option will be Deathstorm Drop Pods which carry an explosive payload of rapid firing missile launchers. That’s quite the surprise landing!

I’m curious to see how these Drop Pods will work in conjunction with the units of Space Marines. I’m going to assume that you’ll need one pod for every two bases of standard Space Marines as that would make sense from the lore. Aside from deployment questions I’m also pretty curious to get my hands on these sprues. As someone who’s build more than their fair share of the regular 40k Drop Pods, I’m working how assembly of these epic scale versions will be. Hopefully, the team sculptors at GW have figured out a way to do the inside of the pods at that scale much easier.

It’s also pretty crazy to see the details of the smaller epic scale Drop Pods in the pictures vs the regular pictures. That’s in no small part to the painting staff!

I personally think that having Drop Pods in Legions Imperialis is going to be a great tactical option. With Titans running around being able to drop in a squad of Specialist Space Marines with a bunch of melta shots might be a really good idea…
