Larian studios proves they know exactly what their audience want with the surprise reveal of a deluxe physical edition of Baldur’s Gate 3.

Baldur’s Gate 3 keeps stacking up wins. From sweeping the Golden Joysticks to jumping right to the top of everyone’s pool of Game of the Year contenders, the RPG may well usher in a new era. And there’s a reason for that. Time and again, Larian Studios have proven that they know exactly what their audience want.

And in this case, what they want is a deluxe physical edition of the game. Which is one thing that’s been missing from the venerable RPG. Players have only been able to download and install it from the digital platform of their choice. But soon (and like actual soon, not Blizzard-Activision “Soon”) that’ll all be changing.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Deluxe Edition – Actual Game Discs? In THIS Economy?

Yesterday, Larian Studios made a surprise reveal of their new Deluxe Edition for PS5, Xbox, and PC, which includes all the goodies in the Digital Deluxe edition, alongside “physical feelies” enough to make you feel like its the turn of the century and life is good, carefree, and full of hope and weird commercials about Slim Jims again.

The Deluxe Edition comes with the full Digital Deluxe content, which includes a bunch of in-game items and bard songs, as well as a bunch of new Divinity-inspired paintings and more. But! On top of all this, there’s an expansive list of “Physical Goodies”:

  • A collector’s edition game box done in the style of the original Baldur’s Gates 1 & 2
  • 3-Disc Original Soundtrack
  • Double-sided world map featuring key locations in the game
  • 32 stickers featuring origin characters, D&D monsters, and more
  • 2 Patches: the Flaming Fist and the Mark of the Absolute
  • Mind Flayer Poster
  • Physical game discs for the platform of your choice, including DVD installer and CD Key for PC version

And all of this will be just $79.99, no matter what platform you’re buying it on. It’s the sort of big collector’s edition thing that makes you feel like “yeah I can go at least another year before I have to develop another facet to my personality besides ‘D&D'” and who doesn’t love putting off change and self-reflection? Especially in this economy.

While you can pre-order the Baldur’s Gate 3 Deluxe Edition today, it isn’t expected to start shipping until Q1 of 2024. Which isn’t that long of a wait, comparatively.

Now THAT’S how you gather your party before venturing forth.
