Goatboy’s Warhammer 40K Meta Hotness: November 2023 – The Yncarne

Goatboy here with some 40K Meta Hotness rising  across the table.  Even with some point increases this Yncarne is still a wrecking ball of death when it hits the battlefield.

An Aeldari assault monster with tricks to get there – this Avatar of Death is going to be an issue for as long as we let that Datasheet stay the way it is.  Let’s dance with the Yncarne, hopefully dodge its murder sword, and not become part of it’s death cult. The Yncarne is another “avatar” for the Aeldari army to use.  While the Avatar of Khaine is a brute force god of fire and death – the Yncarne is all about the death side of things.  This swirling spirit energy monster is designed to hide, show up when someone dies, charge you in the face, and just bring a lot of pain to your army.  You can’t escape the evil touch of this monster and even though it costs a good deal of your army bucks to add it – it will show up like the beast it is.

The Yncarne Hits Hard!

It’s an Avatar of Death so you expect it to be super deadly.  You have an auto hitting psychic attack for d6+3 hits and d3 damage at 12” which is pretty brutal.  You mix this with some movement tricks and you are going to wreck something in the face.  From there the Yncarne can come in with an extremely deadly “big attack” or a sweep that still stays at AP -4.  That’s right this monster can kill all your little stuff and still wreck big stuff with 5 d6+1 damage attacks if it needs too.  A quick change of fate and all of a sudden your big tank is cleaved in half and ready to murder whatever falls out.

Yncarne Movement Tricks!

This model has the ability to “teleport” once per phase when the last model in a unit dies.  That is right – the Avatar of Ynnead just gets picked up, shifted across the table, and shows up after a unit dies.  You know what army is really good at killing people from far away?  Aeldari are great at it! So you can easily throw some Nightspinner love on an enemy, kill the last one, and then pop this model over there to assault and finish it off.  There is no “can’t” assault clause with its rule that all the other armies have. It’s one of the overpowered things I expect to get looked at in the future.

It’s Tough as Nails!

The Yncarne also gets the lovely Avatar ability of halving all damage done to it.  This makes it basically a 24 wound model to remove which is just a bear to deal with.  Especially one that isn’t too big, can shift all over the place, and still has a 4+ invulnerable save.  It is also randomly toughness 10 too which is pretty big for a rather small and shifty little model covered in spirit energy.

A Sample Tournament List

Alex Petford won the Super All Stars event in England this past weekend where he faced off versus another Aeldari army.  A game of shifting models, tough tanks, and Avatars of death is something to get worried about if you can’t remove this model fast enough.  It is going to get into your lines, do a lot of damage, and be a pain to remove.

Yncarne Tactics

You can see all the other “Good Aeldari” stuff in the build but the Yncarne is a major piece to the puzzle breaker that is the Space Elves army.  Just being able to jump around, punch things hard, and be a pain to remove makes this model a must have for any Aeldari player.  That is if you’d can find one.
