A family looking for a new start moves into a house with a severely neglected pool that hasn’t been used in over a decade. Once cleaned up, they discover it’s more than just a thing to take a late-night dip or center a party around. This haunted body of water is a killer.

While the idea of a haunted/possessed [instert inanimate object here] isn’t new, Night Swim plays on the fears a lot of people have about water and looks like it packs in tension-filled scares of the jumpy variety. It looks like a fun watch with plenty of creepy moments.

This movie will kick off 2024’s horror releases. 2023 was a big year for horror of all budgets and themes; let’s hope that continues next year.

Night Swim Cast & Details

The movie is written and directed by Bryce McGuire (Baghead), based on his 2014 short film of the same name. The cast includes Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), Wyatt Russell (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Amélie Hoeferle (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes), and Gavin Warren (Fear the Walking Dead).

“In the film, Ray Waller, a former major league baseball player forced into early retirement by a degenerative illness, who moves into a new home with his concerned wife Eve, teenage daughter Izzy, and young son Elliot. Secretly hoping, against the odds, to return to pro ball, Ray persuades Eve that the new home’s shimmering backyard swimming pool will be fun for the kids and provide physical therapy for him. But a dark secret in the home’s past will unleash a malevolent force that will drag the family under, into the depths of inescapable terror.”

Nightswim debuts in theaters on January 5th.
