We’re taking a closer look at the new Necron and Adeptus Mechanicus models that when up for pre-order this weekend.

Games Workshop has a new batch of Necrons characters along with a divisive Ad Mech Sniper out for pre-order. We got them and have built them for a hands on impression of these models.

Imotekh the Stormlord

Imotekh the Stormlord got a size upgrade compared to his old model. He’s a bit beefer and has a more well rounded 3D pose.

There’s just more detail on this model compared to the old one. Even though the pose is essentially the same GW repositioned things in such a way that those details aren’t hidden anymore. There’s more volume now and Imotekh is also on a larger base.

Personally, I was a little worried he was going to be too “same-sy” as before. But now that I’ve gotten a look at the physical model I can say that it’s a good, solid upgrade for him.

Orikan the Diviner

Orikan follows in the footsteps of Imotekh design philosophy. “If it ain’t broke…” after all. GW basically did the same thing but made him bigger and more voluminous. They added more details and filled the 3D space more.

Between his cape details and the spine, Orikan expanded. We’ll see if this impacts his pick-rate on the tabletop at all (although it’s pretty good right now).

Necron Overlord with Translocation Shroud

Did the Necrons need a new Overlord? Eh, debatable. But at least this one looks very different compared to his more static counterparts. The Translocation Shroud is wild looking. It’s also one of the oldest Rumor Engines that was teased and finally revealed. I do like this model and appreciate the new design.

Necron Size Comparison

Here’s a quick look at the three new characters next to an old Necron Warrior. They are all on larger bases than their previous counterparts. That’s really what sold me on these upgrades and how much more depth they all have. Plus they are all plastic now and that’s another win in my book.

Sydonian Skatos

Oh boy, I know the comments on this one are gonna be a thing. Anyhow, the Sydonian Skatos is coming and you’ll see him walking a mile away! This stilt-legged sniper is very ornate and detailed — he’s got a lot going on. Personally, I like the design of the guy on top of the stilt-legs quite a bit. I’m still not 100% sure I like the legs now that I’ve seen them in person. Not because it’s weird but because I’m more worried about them breaking and the useability of this model on the tabletop.

And just for another frame of reference for folks, here’s a shot of the new model next to a Skitarii. It’s a bigger base and clearly much taller than before.

Big shout out to Mars for taking these snaps in our studio. If you want to catch more of our model pics check out our instagram for regular shots of models.

What do you think of these new Necron and Ad Mech models?
