The multiple Game-of-the-Year winning RPG, Baldur’s Gate 3, is discounted now for the first time, thanks to Steam’s Winter Sale.

Steam Sales are, by and large, a dangerous place to be. These waters are full of games bought impulsively because they’re so cheap, and one day you’ll definitely play them. It’s a sentiment that echoes deep into the reptilian brain, the part of us that remembers life in the protozoic ooze. Where grabbing a piece of bacterial detritus at little cost meant that one day, we would all be sitting here, answering emails and eating crunchwraps.

Makes you tear up at the cosmic wonder of it all. But, it also means that your Steam library is sure to fill up with games you’ll never play, even though you got them at a time when they were anywhere from 20-75% off. Baldur’s Gate 3 is poised to join those hallowed ranks, with its first-ever discount thanks to the Steam Winter Sale.

Only, if you do pick it up, do yourself a favor and play. It’s excellent. There’s a reason it’s won all of those awards and will likely keep winning them.

Of course, it’s “only” a ten percent discount. It won’t even cover the digital upgrade pack, though it does make that cheaper as well. But if this is your excuse to jump feet-first into the absolute masterpiece that Larian Studios has put together, then, by all means, take it. In that Twitter thread before the subheading break, you can see exactly what makes this game so rich and has such teeth.

It’s not that it’s D&D, but that it goes for the possibilities of a ttrpg. And while there are definitely limits… they are way out there. And that leads to some interesting options as you play around with and explore the possibilities.

And yes, kissing the vampire twink is but one of the many possibilities to explore.

Fights that are difficult to face head-on, can often be approached obliquely. You might poison the goblins during their party. Or, encountering gnolls, you might whittle them down with hit-and-run tactics, using stealth to fade from sight and get the drop on them each time.

You could even grab flammable barrels of oil and/or Mind Flayer juice and set them up, Looney Tunes style. To say nothing of using Disguise Self to get in places where you shouldn’t be. Each area is a bit like a Hitman level–there are a number of intricately thought-out tools given to you, and it’s up to you what you do.

Sure you can just go right to the target and snipe them with a silenced pistol, or in the case of Baldur’s Gate 3, use a great weapon/polearm master combo to hew everyone down. But that would deny you half the fun.
