The game that started it all for Dimension 20, Fantasy High will soon be back with another season of high school angst and D&D.

Back in 2018, Dropout made a big splash in the tabletop scene with the release of their new show Dimension 20, an livestreamed D&D game featuring many of the nerdy performers from the soon-to-be-defunct CollegeHumor network, including Brennan Lee Mulligan, whom most from that era would recognize as “the tide pod guy” and who now is everyone’s favorite DM, sorry Matt.

Even in 2018, the world of actual play shows was coalescing into the strange labyrinths you can navigate today. Shows like Not Another D&D Podcast, The Adventure Zone, and of course, Critical Role were already out there doing big things. But Dimension 20 still managed to stand out, not just with an incredibly talented cast and crew, seriously, you should look at the miniatures and sets made by Rick Perry (not the governor) for D20 shows, but also with an amazing premise in the form of Fantasy High.

Fantasy High was a D&D campaign that asked the question, “what if you did a John Hughes movie but in D&D”. And the world was soon introduced to the Intrepid Heroes, known as “The Bad Kids” at the Aguefort Adventuring Academy.

You can watch the entire first season on YouTube, and it’s absolutely worth it. Especially since next year, Fantasy High is back for a third season, Fantasy High: Junior Year.

Fantasy High – Junior Year

“The Bad Kids return for a new year at the Aguefort Adventuring Academy – filled with new challenges, new enemies, and new allies. Premieres January 10th on Dropout. To catch up on Fantasy High, sign up for Dropout today.”

In the announcement thread on Twitter, Dimension 20 explained that the new season was going to be a full 20 episodes long. 20 episodes! In this economy, no less. It will feature some of the “most ambitious battlesets yet” as well as a look behind the scenes in the run-up to the premiere of the next chapter in the lives of the Bad Kids.

Some of the behind the scenes work can be seen in a documentary that follows how Rick Perry makes the incredible miniatures and sets for Dimension 20. Which if you’ve ever seen them, these are some of the most elaborate custom miniatures out there.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

With the sheer amount of hard work that the cast and crew have put into even just the trailer, this coming season is going to be one you won’t want to miss. And you can catch it when it premieres, January 10th on Dropout.

See you January 10th!
