Check out our spotlight on Magic community creators! This week we talked to Cody from The Jund Fund.

Welcome in Praetors and Planeswalkers! One of my favorite things about Commander is the rich community of creators, influencers, and players that have formed around it. YouTube, Twitch, and podcast influencers all provide a unique perspective on the game, whether through playing, deck tech, or just general banter. Creators like these are usually the first introduction players have to the game; they play a huge part in promoting and growing the community. If you love EDH, you probably have a creator to thank. This series is designed to shine a light on some of those brilliant creators.

This week, we’re talking to Cody from The Jund Fund. Jund, as he is known in the community, is a streamer and YouTube personality focusing on unboxing, deckbuilding, and cEDH, a sometimes reviled subsection of Commander. However, Jund’s manner of play and his easy-going personality helps players of any skill level learn the hopes of the format, and find their edge in a more competitive game state.

How Long Have You Been Playing Magic?

I’ve been playing Magic since around 2017. My first set I really got into was Dominaria and I’ve been hooked ever since.

What Drew You to the Game?

I’ve always been a fan of competitive card games, dating back to my time playing Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh as a kid in the early 2000’s. I was always aware of Magic, but for some reason it didn’t really click with me until I was much, much older. Some friends of mine started playing and asked if I wanted to learn. The rest is history.

How Long Has Your Channel Been Around?

My channel has been around since November 2021 and started off as just a fun way for me to open booster boxes. I kept uploading videos every couple of weeks and slowly started getting connected with other creators such as Trying Casually, Mana Curves, and k0ppk0pp. I started becoming a regular Commander stream guest for other channels and slowly transitioned into having my own Twitch stream where we play with other creators in the community.

What Makes Your Channel Unique?

My channel focuses solely on cEDH and serves as a safe place for players new to the format to give it a shot and learn the ropes. I take a lot of pride in helping people get into cEDH and seeing their more competitive side come out.

What Advice Do You Have for Up and Coming Content Creators?

My advice to up and coming creators is to open to opportunities that come your way! You never know how being a guest on another channel can lead to bigger things down the road. It’s also extremely important to just be yourself. Don’t try and copy someone else, that’s not what people come to watch you for. Most importantly: HAVE FUN!

What’s Your Favorite Set?

My favorite set is a tough one to answer, but I’d probably have to say either Innistrad or Throne of Eldraine.

Which Commander is Your Favorite and Why?

My favorite commander in casual EDH has got to be Henzie “Toolbox” Torre because there’s nothing better than blitzing in big, crazy creatures for super cheap and getting a bunch payoffs from it. For cEDH, it’s absolutely Korvold, Fae-Cursed King because even when I’m playing competitively, I’m all about that Jund Life!

Tune in next time for another Commander Spotlight!
