Goatboy’s Warhammer 40K: Grimdark Birthday Wishes

Goatboy here with everything I hope to see 40K bring me for my birthday – meaning this month! We’ll see what LVO brings!

I write this on the day before my birthday.  I turn 46 years old and have been writing about this game for a long time.  You’d think I would get tired about it all but I still really enjoy this game – even if my play skill still isn’t as good as it used to be.  I still just love pushing around little models, imagining deadly laser beams coming out of their guns, and taking over some neoprene objectives.

This leads me to think about what I would love to see for my birthday – if I could have anything from the 40K universe.  It also doesn’t help that I am just waiting to head out to LVO this next weekend, and get some games in.  As you get older, have kids/responsibilities, you will start to find trying to get in game time is a lot harder.

This is why I play the same sorts of list all the time.  If you know me, a low model count, big monster-style army is what makes me happy in life.  You mix in some insane assault options, and that army list brings me joy.  I have come to accept my limitations and know that while I might not make a Top-8, I will wreck some face when I roll that 12-inch charge.

So what do I even want for my birthday?  What could GW produce that would bring me 40K Birthday joy?  What kind of nonsense am I waiting for?  Well, let’s list these out.

A Strong Ork Codex

I want an Ork codex that makes me finish my Ork army.  I have a ton of plastic in boxes and I kept grabbing things as I skip along in my life as a 40K player.  I like the Ork army.  I like how it looks.  I don’t mind building them.  I even enjoy painting them.  I just can’t get over the hump to get an army built I want to play with as I continue to move back to Chaos over and over.  I think it is the daunting task of painting so much stuff that just keeps me from jumping in when I could just do a unit or two of Chaos and “complete” a new phase in my army nonsense.  I am hoping we see something next week at the 40K LVO Seminar that is Orks, so I get super excited and jump into the Ork pool of madness.

40K Fulgrim Please!

Next up of course is I would finally get a 40K Fulgrim.  I know I feel like I am a Khorne guy, but I do like the Emperor’s Children army.  The idea that 30K gets a super sweet daemon one , and 40K doesn’t, is something I feel should be fixed ASAP.  This monster is in all the fluff, shows up to be a pain in the butt, and should look awesome.  I hope we see him at some point and then we see a true release of Codex Emperor’s Children to the world.  Every other Cult Legion got something – why not the purple guys right?

GW Events – Where Are They?

Oh and I want to get an announcement of where GW’s next events are.  I plan on making at least one of them and hopefully two (maybe the second means I got a golden ticket?!?).  I like those events and have had fun seeing friends, playing in GW’s terrain environment, and just going to them.  Events are where I get a chance to get away, talk about the game I love a lot, and throw some dice around.  I have too many memories of just hanging out with people and obsessing about some dorky model I saw or an army list that wrecked my face.  Having these events and all the others around me is a great thing.  I will hopefully get to some more local Texas ones this year as well as just getting a chance to play more.

More 10th Edition Codexes Please!

I also just hope we see a lot more books than the list we have now.  I think while 10th started off kind of limping it really has started to get better.  Between the updates, books not wrecking the meta, and GW just listening to things, it really has started to turn into a much tighter game.  I am happy for this as I obviously spend a ton of time building, painting, and finally paying at events so having more books and tighter rules just leads to a cleaner experience all around.  That experience is what I want new players to feel and hopefully the game continues to work well and kick butt.

All My 40K Buddies to Be Healthy and Merry!

Finally I just wish all my friends to remain healthy.  I know a few people have passed this past year and more will come this next year.  We are all getting older and I just want to make sure my friends stay healthy and show up to events.  It is just something I always think about as I get older and want to be around for my kids and buddies to have a good time. Here is hoping to some sweet stuff showing up in the preview, friends I see at LVO, and just a good time as usual.  I am playing some sweet CSM as it is all done, don’t have to rush to paint anything, and I have played it a few times.  Which is all I can ask for when playing at an event.

See you at LVO, come say hi, and grab a sticker or two!
