Atomic Mass Games is showcasing Nightcrawler. What teleporting tricks will he bring to the tabletop in Marvel: Crisis Protocol?

The mutant superhero Kurt Wagner, aka Nightcrawler is coming to Marvel: Crisis Protocol soon. Atomic Mass Games has pulled the covers off this mutant’s card and we’re getting a look at what he can do. Get ready for a puff of smoke and major BAMF! action from this iconic character.

“Nightcrawler enters Marvel: Crisis Protocol as a Threat Value 4 character with 6 Stamina on his Healthy side and 5 Stamina on his Injured side with a respectable defensive stat line. His fans may be surprised to see his Medium move, but this is a little deceptive as he can BAMF! like no one else.”

Nightcrawler Rules Preview

Nightcrawler’s basic attack is the Teleporting Strike. It’s a fairly standard “builder” but it is range 3 and 5 dice. Additionally, it has a special Ha-HA! effect for longer range attacks that can apply the Stun condition. Considering you don’t need any special dice to trigger the effect, that already make that attack interesting. To follow that up, he’s got Brimstone Blitz. This is a “spender” that only costs 1 energy — but that’s a little deceptive. You’re going to want to plan on using this ability when you’ve got a ton of energy to spare.

Why? Well, to start, you get to add dice to the attack based on the number of times this character has been “Placed” this turn. How are you going to get Nightcrawler “Placed” this turn? By teleporting around using the Puff of Smoke ability. After Nightcrawler attacks and does damage you can Place him within range 2 of the target character. One more thing, Brimstone Blitz can trigger multiple times.

“Flurry of Blows does not prevent the additional attack action from benefiting from Flurry of Blows which can make for incredible moments as Nightcrawler flashes around his target in his trademark flurry of teleporting attacks.”

You can already see how this works, right? If you get lucky, you can just keep spending energy on Brimstone Blitz as you Place Nightcrawler within range 2 and keep teleporting around punching the target — and each subsequent attack get more and more dice to throw. That’s a really cool and really flavorful ability!

From there, we’ve also got his BAMF! ability which is his iconic teleport. You can spend 1-3 energy to Place Nightcrawler within range X of his current position, where X is the amount of energy spent. Again, that move speed of medium is deceptive!

Defensively, he’s also got Unglaublich Acrobatics — for 2 energy you can add 2 dice to any physical or energy based attacks. And he also has Invisible in Shadow which provides him with a stealth-like ability while within range 1 of a Size 2 or larger terrain feature. Enemies will need to get within range 3 to be able to target him. And finally he also has Wallcrawler so he can get pretty much anywhere he needs to!

Personally, I’m really glad to see him joining the game. His powers seem good right off the bat and they fit the character extremely well. I’m looking forward to taking Nightcrawler in my X-Men themed lists for sure! I’m also wondering if maybe we’ll get an Excalibur affiliation in the future…
