Get ready for a grim and perilous adventure in a bold new way with a new RPG set in Warhammer: The Old World. Fantasy’s back!

At the big launch event for Warhammer: The Old World, the fresh coat of paint slapped onto the Warhammer Fantasy you know and love—or knew and loved because they blew it up for a while—Cubicle 7 had big news to announce. Alongside the square bases and templates making a comeback, Cubicle 7 announced an RPG set in The Old World.

This now makes TWO different RPGs set in the world of Warhammer Fantasy that Cubicle 7 will be doing. Because Cubicle 7 also makes Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, which you may fondly remember as the game where your character started off as a tax collector and then died horribly in the night, killed by Chaos cultists, or you actually did good in the game. Either way, it was fun, it had a distinct feel, and that was what it was about.

Because Warhammer Fantasy, and hopefully The Old World, is as much a vibe as it is anything else. There was always a sense of dark humor lurking in the heroic knights and warped Chaos champions. Sure, you had Karl Franz over there, with Ghal Maraz, the Warhammer in Warhammer Fantasy. But you also had a bunch of greedy little sots who were just as likely to fall to Chaos as they were to be heroes.

And Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay is still going. In their announcement, Cubicle 7 made it clear that there will be two lines going.

Cubicle 7 Announces Warhammer: The Old World RPG

Here’s a look at their announcement:

“Breaking news! We are developing a new roleplaying game based on Games Workshop’s recently launched Warhammer: The Old World.

Our own Dominic McDowall said, “Exploring a new era with Warhammer: The Old World is an honour and a privilege. As huge fans of the classic Warhammer setting we’re thrilled to be working with Games Workshop on the new chapter of such a beloved setting.

Fans of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay can rest assured it will continue as its own game line, with many, many releases already scheduled for the coming years.”

Other than that, details are a little sparse. But we know that, in general, the Old World is set 300 years prior to when Warhammer Fantasy exploded in 2015 to make way for the Age of Sigmar. And you can expect to see all the familiar things you love, with the benefit of an RPG coming at this from the ground up.

I’m excited to see what Cubicle 7 does; they’ve really been killing it with the Imperium Maledictum lately. Excitement for the Old World is palpable. Here’s hoping you can be a tallow maker or some other weirdness.
