Ubisoft’s upcoming hive of scum and villainy, Star Wars Outlaws, seems like it’ll be out towards the end of the year.

Star Wars Outlaws, the game of scoundrels and rogues that promises to do what few other Star Wars games do—let you play as someone interesting and cool who isn’t secretly a Jedi—is due out in late 2024. According to a post on the Disney Parks blog, at any rate.

The post reveals that the game is aiming for a late 2024 release window, which is more solid information than any other more official sources have announced so far. This is good news for Star Wars fans, who were surprised by the game’s appearance at last year’s Xbox Games Showcase.

Star Wars Outlaws – Late 2024 Release Window

Disney and Ubisoft quietly released a blog post on the Disney Parks that revealed the release window.

And for Star Wars fans – Star Wars Outlaws, the open-world Star Wars game is set to release late this year. The game lets you explore distinct planets across the galaxy, both iconic and new.  You can risk it all as Kay Vess, an emerging scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life, along with her companion Nix. If you’re willing to take the risk, the galaxy is full of opportunity.

Which, sure, isn’t much. But it does give a framework to play with.

What We Know About Star Wars Outlaws

The game came in with an incredible trailer last June.

Not long after, the trailer was followed up by an incredible gameplay showcase during Ubisoft Forward. It lets you see just how much criminal activity you’ll be able to get up to as the scoundrel Kay Vess.

The game’s focus on the criminal elements, or indeed, anything outside of the Jedi, puts it in rare company. It joins the likes of Republic Commando and Shadows of the Empire in giving focus to the other parts of the Star Wars universe.

Speaking of which, we know a few other things about the game. Notably, it’s set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, when the criminal syndicates are thriving in the wake of the wavering power of the Galactic Empire.

Ubisoft also seems to have learned some new lessons regarding “open-world” games, taking a more manageable approach with Star Wars Outlaws. As previously revealed during an interview with Edge Magazine, one of Outlaws’ planets might be “two or three of the zones in Assassin’s Creed: Odyseey” instead of trying to recreate a whole world with “historic accuracy”.

As a result, the game can be more “handcrafted.” Each area is purposefully designed, as opposed to procedurally generated worlds built in other sci-fi games. After Assassin’s Creed Mirage this year, fans are excited as to what this can mean for Outlaws.

Star Wars Outlaws also delivers another important Star Wars experience: letting you have a cute little guy as a pet/accomplice.
