The first of three missions packs has arrived for Star Wars: Shatterpoint. How will Sabotage Showdown expand your games?

If you’ve been playing Star Wars: Shatterpoint then you’re probably familiar with the missions in the game. And you’re probably ready for some new ones to mix things up. Well good news because that’s exactly what the first new mission pack is here to do! Sabotage Showdown is the first of three missions packs designed to work with the first several waves of releases. This pack is themed around sabotage and extraction — if you couldn’t tell by the name. But enough about the background, let’s get into the pack and the cards themselves!

At first, I was a little confused why a box of this size was needed for (basically) 10 cards. In the pack, you’ll get the new mission card and then nine struggle cards. Oh and a punch card sheet. But the reason this box is this thick is because it comes with five sets of those cards for the five different languages supported.

Everything comes inside the plastic baggies as Atomic Mass Games products come. First, let’s check out the punch card tokens:

The one sheet is double sided. The tokens on the bottom are really the only things that needed to be double sided as they are either red or blue. Now, remember all those cards I mentioned?

Again, there’s A LOT of them. Most people will probably only want their respective language. That said, I was actually thinking this would be a fun way to teach someone a new language. But I’m not a linguist or a teacher — but if you are let us know if you think that’s a good idea!

Anyhow, the actual mission has already been shown off my AMG. It will provide you with the overall mission rules and deployment. It’s really those struggle cards that can change the game for you. Those determine what objectives are what and also where they will be active. Again, there’s 3 sets of 3 based on which struggle is happening. This helps to create multiple iterations of games and can really change your experience.

Thematically, I think this mission pack is really cool. I like the titles they used for each struggle card as tell the story of your squads battling it out. Did you manage to set the charges? Did the “welcome party” show up to ruin your plans? I guess you better get the hanger bay before it’s too late to leave…

These should be a welcome addition to the Shatterpoint game and as this is the first of three mission packs you can expect more of these in the future. I’m looking forward to this sort of narrative-driven mission style. It doesn’t seem easy for either side to completely dominate either. That should be great for tournaments and competitive play, too.

Star Wars: Shatterpoint – Sabotage Showdown $14.99

“Players can embark on a new Star Wars: Shatterpoint mission with this pack! Featuring the first new set of Mission cards outside of the Core Set, Sabotage Showdown adds more variety to games of Shatterpoint with new objective layouts and new mission special rules that pose new tactical challenges for strike teams to overcome.”
