There’s a new metal miniature coming to The Old World and it’s got some hidden history behind it. Meet the new Bretonnian Lord from 2008!

The Old World is bringing back a ton of miniatures from the vault of Warhammer. There’s even a few “new” models that were hiding in the vault that are finally getting released. Today, we’re getting a look at a new Bretonnian Lord that was first teased at a Game Day in 2008 but was never released…until now.

“There are even a few new models coming – but one of these has a longer history than you might expect. In fact, this Bretonnian Lord on Foot (and his little helper) were actually sculpted back in 2008, but never released.”

Bretonnian Lord From 2008

According to GW this model was shown off “in a cabinet of greens” during Games Day 2008. At the time, miniatures were sculpted in modeling putty using sculpting tools (aka dental tools) by hand. Once the miniatures were set, they would then be cast in master moulds so the miniature could be reproduced. The greens/miniatures would be saved incase they ever had to replace the moulds.

Unfortunately for the Bretonnian Lord (and his squire) this miniature was never released. However, someone from The Old World team remember it and asked about it. Turns out that the mould room still had the miniature! And now it’s finally being released to the public!

It’s quite the wait for this miniature and I’m glad someone remembered this fellow. I’m glad to see it finally seeing the light of day even if it is a bit of a time capsule from 2008. The sculpt itself is neat and I like the pose and the fact that it was designed with the proportions of miniatures from 2008. It’s going to feel right at home in The Old World range!
