Marvel: Crisis Protocol – How Could We Forget About These X-Men Characters?

The 90’s X-Men cartoon has a wealth of characters that could be added to Marvel: Crisis Protocol. I can’t believe we didn’t think of these sooner.

Once again, I’ve been delving deep into the wormhole to the past that is the 90’s X-Men cartoon in preparation for the upcoming ’97 X-Men coming in March. They make for great background while I’m building or painting MCP miniatures. Plus I can’t bring myself to skip that bop of an intro song. Anyhow, it really been hitting me how many characters they managed to squeeze into the show.

That said, I still can’t believe I didn’t think of these characters sooner. Let’s check them out!

Phoenix/Dark Phoenix

Okay, seriously Dark Phoenix would be a great option for the game. Not only could she be an awesome looking model (Jean Grey in the Phoenix costume with flaming Phoenix wings coming out of her like in the picture above), but she could even be another Crisis Event. Those scenarios are fun and a great way to teach the game to new players as you’re often up against a super threat — and it’s kind of a team-up mission anyhow. Anyhow, Dark Phoenix seems like a no brainer addition!

Strong Guy

Guido Carosella is a member of X-Factor and shows up later on in the X-Men series (season 3, Episode 11 – Cold Comfort). As a kid I was always a little confused about what his powers were. His main power is that he can absorb Kinetic Energy and it enhances his physical strength. He does have limits and has to expend the energy shortly after absorbing it or it could do permanent damage. Personally, I like the idea of a bruiser that hits even harder the more he’s been bruised. Plus, Strong Guy always brings the quips, too!

Maverick/Agent Zero

I’m not going to get into the convoluted backstory of the Weapon X Program. With all the memory wipes it’s not only confusing for the characters but can also be for the reader. However, it was a pretty wetworks team that included Wolverine, Sabertooth, Silver Fox, and Maverick. Maverick not only had a disquishing mask, he also had kinetic energy absorption that allowed him to tank hits and survive dangerous falls. Additionally, as part of Weapon X, he also gained a slight healing factor.

But really, I think he’s just got that edgy 90’s look and I could easily see him in Marvel: Crisis Protocol as this incarnation or as Agent Zero, who has also had quite the run. And lastly, check out the artwork for the Team Tactic card “Call The Pack” — you might recognize someone…

Longshot

Longshot also shows up in the show (Season:2 Episode: 11 – Mojovision). He’s got a toned down role and you don’t really get to see his powers in action. His backstory is kinda weird, too. However, one of his key powers is that he’s got “good luck” powers. However, those can backfire from overuse. I think this could be a cool rule in the game as a “push-your-luck” ability. Push it too far and maybe it backfires. But the real reason I think he should be in the game is because…

Mojo

Mojo Ball is coming soon from Atomic Mass Games. It seems like a good reason to have Mojo also show up in some form. I mean, his name is on the cover of the box! And having him in game would kind of explain the detour to Mojoworld. Also, on a personal note, I remember the Mojo toy that was created for him back in the 90’s and it was kinda gross and creepy. It always stuck with me and I’d love to get him as a miniature…mostly so I could then send teams of heroes after him to take him out!

There’s TONS of characters hidden in the X-Men cartoon. Who else would you love to see?
