Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate — Daemonhuners comes to consoles, bringing turn-based tactics to a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S near you.

Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters is one of our favorite 40K games of recent days. And there’s little wonder why. It takes the turn-based tactical drama of XCOM or Battletech and puts it in the grim darkness of the distant future. Today, Daemonhunters launches on consoles.

So whether you’re playing on a PS5 (or 4) or an Xbox Series X|S (or One), you can now see what all the fuss is about. Just get ready to lose what little free time you might have been hanging onto. Because as a turn-based game, the hours can fly by before you realize it.

Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters Releases on Console Today

In a nutshell, here’s what the game promises. You are in command of a beleaguered band of Grey Knights who are returning from Crusade. When suddenly, an Inquisitor shows up with a mandate, a mission, and evidence of a deadly Nurgle plague. While Grey Knight command is doubtful, the fate of this sector of the galaxy may well depend on a small number of Grey Knights (and also now Assassinorum agents).

You’ll engage in a long campaign where you’ll patrol your neck of the woods, slowly rebuilding, repairing, and upgrading your ship as well as your squad members. There are a number of Grey Knight classes, each with four different talent trees you can send them down. The customization possibilities aren’t endless, but are expansive. We loved this game when it came to PC, and for a more in-depth look at why, you can read our review here. All the same stuff applies.

In particular, the race against Nurgle’s Bloom made for a lot of tactical choices. The game strikes a delicate balance between wanting to upgrade all your guys and wanting to stop the plague from overrunning every planet you’re supposed to be protecting. The battles can be very challenging. If you haven’t played a tactics game in a while, that difficulty slider is your friend.

But once you get past that initial grindy hump, the Grey Knights feel very much like Grey Knights. It is an absolute blast, and the hours will fill with your crusade against Nurgle.
