Warhammer 40K: Getting Started With Dark Angels – FTN

The Dark Angels are an ancient and venerable Chapter.  Counted 1st among their brothers.  Shrouded in mystery. Storied and proud.

We give some insight on where to get started with this army if you are brand new to it or just coming back after a long stint hiding in the Rock.

The Dark Angels codex has some folks left with mixed feelings.  Some units feel into the pit of legends. There are some new units with some cool rules and then there are a few new detachments that don’t seem to be blowing people out of their seats.  But isn’t that ok?  I mean.. Space Marines books in the past have mostly been about synergies and combos.  Allowing players to mix and match units to give certain effects or challenges to their opponents on the table top.  We don’t dig too deep into that part just yet but more keep it surface level, at where to start with an army list.

I believe there is a lot of opportunity in the Dark Angels codex to build around Leader models.  More so than what we’ve seen with the other books thus far as these characters aren’t just sacks of stats but they are also personalities that people have affinity for, things that brought people to the army in the first place.

If you like one of the ‘Wings’ in the lore, great… You’re back in business with this book but a lot of the first born flavor has sadly been relegated to the legends category.  I think that may hold people back with a little nostalgia burn but once they get past that… Maybe there is some sweetness there that people haven’t found yet.  Any time you have a book come out that leaves some legacy in the dust it seems to take people a while to find the new best stuff.

The Hobby segment this week is about being lazy when it comes to magnetizing and just using super glue you can maybe freeze off later.
