A new third-party contender joins D&D Beyond, bringing more than 400 new monsters with it as Kobold’s Tome of Beasts lands.

Kobold Press makes excellent 5E supplements. Their history with WotC goes back many a year, including during the run-up to the launch of 5th Edition. A team from Kobold worked on The Rise of Tiamat and Princes of the Apocalypse back before the rules were even finished baking. Since then, they’ve launched multiple campaign settings, most notably the mythic/history-inspired Midgard. But of particular note are their manuals full of monsters, better known as the Tomes of Beasts.

Each one adds hundreds of new monster stat blocks to 5th Edition. And today, the first of these arrives on D&D Beyond, adding another 3rd-party publisher to the growing list. Adventurers can snag Kobold’s Tome of Beasts as of today. Assuming they haven’t already purchased it, since the book came out back in 2016. But, even if you have, this book provides updated errata and streamlined rules. Let’s take a look!

Tome of Beasts Comes to D&D Beyond

Whether you need dungeon vermin or world-shaking villains, Tome of Beasts 1 has it. This book presents foes suitable for any campaign setting—from tiny drakes and peculiar spiders to demon lords and ancient dragons.

These monsters have been designed so that GMs can use them in their favorite settings for fantasy adventure. This monstrous tome contains:

  • More than 400 new monsters for use with the D&D Beyond Encounters tool.
  • Updated with errata, streamlined mechanics, and new monster art from the original Tome of Beasts.
  • Expansive tables that organize creatures by challenge rating, creature type, and terrain.

Grabbing this book means you’ll be able to use it on D&D Beyond. Not only do you get the digital book, but you also get its options added to the Encounters Tool, Maps Tool, and for all your digital character sheet needs.

Since the book is offering errata and “streamlined mechanics” this is likely the 2023 version of the book, which got an update last year. This means you’ll also find 11 new creatures within, including the Ashwalker, Planewatcher, and Ancient Cave Dragon.
