The Warhammer Underworlds Warband Zondara’s Gravebreakers can be used in Age of Sigmar and can dig up multiple relics!

If you’re not familiar with Zondara’s Gravebreakers they are a new Warband coming soon Warhammer Underworlds. And, much like previous Warbands before them, the Gravebreakers are also getting rules you can download for free to use on the big tabletop of Age of Sigmar. You can download those rules here.  Today, we’re going to check out their rules because they have some nasty tricks to pull.

Zondara’s Gravebreakers In Age of Sigmar

Statwise, Zondara isn’t too crazy. Clearly, she’s not a melee hero although she’s not a complete push over as her Wild Staff does have a -1 Rend and 2 damage with 3 swings. Sure, they are 4+/4+ but I’ve seen worse profiles. No, the real reason you take her is because she’s a Wizard. Her next ability is Zondara’s Minions which is basically a bodyguard ability that allows you to toss wounds over to the Gravebreaker unit on a 4+. Remember, those now count as Wards so anything that improves her Ward also applies to that save, too.

Her innate spell is Wild Incantation. This causes Deadwalkers units wholly within range (12″) to auto wound on 6s to hit. If you can pile on the attacks that’s actually not bad! Any auto wound attacks are just more dice rolls you don’t have to roll and you opponent has to save.

The Gravebreakers come with four models: Cracktomb, Pikk, Toyle, and Lost Ferlain. And folks, these are zombies so don’t expect too much from them. They are at least 2 wounds each and generate a decent number of attacks each. Feralin in particular has better attacks. But the real reason you want to run them (beside the bodyguard ability and the fact you have to include them with Zondara) is their Unearthed Treasures ability.

Ideally, you’re playing them in a Soulblight Gravelords army so you can use this ability. But what it does is help you to generate more Relics. On a roll of 2-4 you get to return D3 slain models to this unit. This could be quite powerful as each model has two wounds as mentioned above. It could keep them around for way longer than they have any right to be there.

But on a 5-6 roll, you get another artefact of power from the Soulblight Gravelords. No other Hero may already have that artefact, but still…there are some good options out there. Additionally, she can hold any number of artefacts in this manner! It’s kind of silly but there aren’t a ton of ways to get more artefacts in your army after you build you list and it’s even rarer to see a character with the option to take multiple artefacts of power, too.

I don’t think this unit is going to be busted by any means. But for 220 points, they are a package deal. You get a unit of slightly tougher to kill zombies and wizard. Plus you could get some janky extra artefacts which is fun. If you already have the models why not make some room for them in your list and give them a spin! Who knows what they could dig up…
