Uk’otoa, the leviathan demigod, is ready to join your RPG adventures and miniature games with this pair of minis from WizKids.

One of the awesome things about WizKids RPG miniatures is that you can buy them without needing to paint. If you prefer to paint minis, you can get them pre-primed and ready to go, too. Whichever element of the hobby you prefer (gaming or painting), WizKids has something ready to go right out of the box!

In this post, we look at the Uk’Otoa from their Critical Role line of miniatures. You can buy this figure painted or unpainted. For this review, we have a copy of both here.

The Pre-Painted Miniature

Right out of the box, this sea monster is beautiful! The pre-painted one is actually very well done. Check this out!

The details across the entire model look really good! I have to say, I like what I see, and this is straight out of the box—no extra paint added! The paint application is clean, and those eyes really pop.

Even the other sections of the Sea Monster look amazing. They didn’t focus on just the head!

Looks awesome. Now, let’s look at the unpainted miniature.

The Unpainted Uk’Otoa

I’ve heard a lot of feedback from many readers that they can paint better than WizKids Pre-Paints. That may be the case, and if so, there is another option for you. You can buy this exact same miniature unpainted.

As you would expect, it is the exact same, but without any of the paint already on it. There is just primer. That’s right, you don’t even need to prime this thing. It is ready to paint right out of the box!

Again, the details throughout the miniature are really nice. Even the back pieces.

That said, it’s going to look a lot better once someone paints the pieces.

Some Action Shots

This miniature looks so cool! I had to have some fun with it! I took the two miniatures I had from WizKids and paired them with a Firelock Games Sloop with a full crew. I then paired it all up with a Cigar Box Battle Mat. The results are amazing. Check out these photos!

Jeremy Cada of Forbes Hobbies (in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada) painted the Sloop. They have tons of painting supplies there!

Bill of Phoenix Games and Hobbies (in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada) painted the crew members. Both shops are local to me and awesome places to visit. I really like to support them when I can.

If you like these painted minis, both shops do commission work and can also point you to other people who take commissions.

Of course, you could always paint the models yourself too, or buy these pre-painted miniatures from WizKids.

Wrapping it up…

These Uk’Otoa miniatures by WizKids and Critical Role are meant for Role-Playing Games such as Dungeons and Dragons. That said, I certainly think you can adapt them to other gaming systems, such as Frostgrave: Ghost Archipelago, or even make house rules to make the figure fit into Blood & Plunder.

Oh yes, if you like Sea Monsters for 28mm gaming, don’t forget to check out my previous post about the WizKids Hydra.

Until next time, Happy Gaming, Everyone!!!
