Hibou Khan is a Terran-born Loyalist-Turned-Traitor-Turned-Loyalist in the Horus Heresy saga. He goes to show could all use a second chance.

Not all of the Legions of Space Marines during the Horus Heresy were so cut-and-dry with their decision to remain loyal or turn traitor. Some of the might have felt pushed one way or the other. And then some of those might of realized the mistakes they made. Hibou Khan’s story is one of rebellion and redemption…of a kind. Now he’s coming to the tabletop with a new miniature and a neat rule to match.

“Though most of the conspirators were killed, Hibou submitted himself to the Great Khan’s judgement and showed genuine contrition for his betrayal. In return, he was not executed immediately, and instead was condemned to live out his days as one of the Sagyar Mazan – honourless oathbreakers who sought atonement through suicidal raids on enemy strongpoints.

Eventually, his service led him to the Garmon Cluster and the Shattered Legions commanded by Shadrak Meduson. He would go on to deal a horrific wound to Horus Aximand at the Battle of Dwell, nearly severing the Traitor commander’s face, and reap a heavy tally against the Sons of Horus.”

Hibou Khan, Rebellion And Atonement

Hibou Khan sought redemption and atonement for his betrayal. He might have turned traitor but he came back and wanted to make things right — or at least die in the attempt. This special rule reflects that arc. He starts off granting himself and the unit he’s leading Rampage (2). However, if and when he is removed as a casualty, the rule changes. It now gives the army an additional reaction during the opposing player’s Assault Phase. This represents his battle brothers celebrating his sacrifice and ultimate redemption in the eyes of their chapter.

This resin model will be available from Forge World soon. It features Hibou in Mk II Crusade-pattern armour and marks him as a long serving member in the Legion Astartes. He also comes with both the helmet and helmetless options. Skeletal War paint is something you’re going to have to add yourself.

Rebellion. Repentance. Atonement.
