The Solar Auxilia are getting a new Battle Group box this weekend. We know the price point. Is it going to be worth snagging?

Hopefully you’ve seen the new Solar Auxilia Battle Group by now. It’s coming to pre-order this weekend and it will be the first time we’re getting any of these models as full plastic kits for 40k scale. It’s a good time to be a Solar Auxilia fan. But considering how close this army is to the Astra Militarum in 40k, we were wondering what sort of deal this box could be. Normally, we’d just look at the pricing for each of these kits individually and do some basic math. However, none of these kits are officially available solo yet. So, as a comparison point, we’re looking at the Astra Militarum boxes for the closest approximations. So let’s do this.

Line Command (based on Command Squad) = $45

Solar Auxilia Lasrifle Section (based on 2x Cadian Shock Troops) = $100

Leman Russ Strike Tank (based on current Leman Russ Battle Tank) = $65

Aethon Pattern Heavy Sentinel (based on Armoured Sentinel) = $45

Dracosan Armoured Transport (based on Rogal Dorn Battle Tank) = $100

Total Estimated Individual MSRP = $355

Total Estimated Savings = $145

Now, a couple of clarifications about the pricing. Some of these units are probably going to be off relative to the estimated prices we’re using. Comparing Astra Militarum to Solar Auxilia pricing is a lot like trying to compare Space Marines to Legions Astartes. Sure, they might be close but they may be off by $5-$10 here and there. As an example, a box of 20 Legion MKVI Tactical Squad Astartes is $80. A box of Primaris Marines is $60 for 10. So, obviously there could be some “bulk” discounts here.

However, other things might actually be under priced. The Leman Russ for example is a different kit and it’s likely that it’s going to cost slightly more than the price point we used. Same with the Aethon Heavy Sentinel. That could be closer to a Dreadnought price point of $60. So with that in mind, I still think we’re being pretty fair about the savings in this box. Oh, and we didn’t even price in the Transfer Sheets either.

Deal or No Deal?

However you slice this box you’re going to be saving money in the long term vs the individual boxes. How much remains to verified. This box is also the first chance you’re going to get at these models as well. Overall, I’d say that’s worth it for anyone looking to jump into the Solar Auxilia. This box is really the first major set in plastic for the Solar Auxilia. I think now that they are also getting releases in plastic your odds of seeing an SA show up to Horus Heresy events has just shot waaaaay up. That’s a good thing overall for the long term health of the Horus Heresy.

Anyone else thinking that this Battle Group could double as a sweet Astra Militarum throwback army, too?
