Check out a new featured Commander to add to your build list! This week features Eladamri, an Elvish Lord who believes the best army is the one you never see.

Welcome Planeswalkers and Praetors to our new series about the best casual experience in Magic: Commander. For the uninitiated, Commander is a semi-casual format for Magic: the Gathering. You use a deck of 100 cards led by a legendary creature, aka, your Commander.

Aside from basic lands, you are only allowed one copy of each card in the deck. Moreover, you can only include cards in your Commander’s “color identity” or artifacts. Each color and color combo has a unique playstyle and a wealth of mighty generals to lead your deck to victory. EDHRec.com is an excellent source for Commander info and can give you ideas to build your next Commander deck or tune an existing one.

The Commander

Giving serious Elrond vibes, Eladamri is one of the original Elvish leaders. Hailing from the Tempest block, Eladamri is a Lord from Skyshroud who was integral in uniting the Coalition against first the Stronghold and then the Phyrexian threat. On the tabletop, you can see how he earned his vaunted position.

He’s a 2/2 for two Green, which is barely a strain for a Green player. While on the field, he gives all your other Elves forestwalk and shroud. Having an army of angry Elves that can fully bypass your opponent’s defenses and offenses is pretty fantastic. The only unfortunate part is that you can’t target them either, but at the end of the day, you probably won’t need to.

The only problem with forestwalk is that it won’t actually do anything if you’re playing into a non-green deck. Thankfully, the good ents over at Fangorn Forest have a solution for you. Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth makes every land into a Forest. Not only does this ensure a steady supply of Green mana, but it also opens the gate for your Elves to do all the damage they want undisturbed.

Most Elves aren’t very big, but with shroud, it’s hard to give your Elves the big damage boost they need to secure the kill. Coat of Arms solves that problem in a big way. Every Elf on the field makes all your other Elves stronger. Since Elves multiply like rabbits, you’ll have a deadly 21/21 unblockable, untargetable army in no time.

MTG is ever-changing, with new busted and broken cards rising to the top. Check back in next week for another featured Commander.
