Six years on, and according to Saber’s CEO, the erstwhile KOTOR Remake is still going strong. For now, at least.

Apparently, the Knights of the Old Republic is still in development. At least according to Saber CEO Matthew Karch, who spoke with IGN yesterday about the game, which, despite a long six years and numerous setbacks, is still in development.

But hey, anything’s possible, especially for a franchise almost infamous for returning from the brink of destruction. The KOTOR Remake is hotly anticipated, invoking one of the greatest cRPGs of all time and a game that left its mark on the Star Wars canon. And, according to the Karch, it may well “exceed expectations.”

KOTOR Remake Still On Track, No Really

KOTOR 2

It’s inevitable that games face some delays and/or setbacks over the long course of their development. That’s just life. And anyone who’s ever worked on a group project knows exactly how a small thing can careen off into disaster.

But the KOTOR Remake, announced in 2021, has been through some exceptional challenges. Development has reportedly started, stopped, and restarted multiple times, along with changes in direction that might spell doom for any game. But, according to Karch, the game is still kicking along:

“It’s clear and it’s obvious that we’re working on this. It’s been in the press numerous times. What I will say is that the game is alive and well, and we’re dedicated to making sure we exceed consumer expectations.”

What those expectations are, how far along the game is, when it might release—all these details are up in the air. But Saber Interactive has a lot on its plate right now. If you haven’t been following along, the company recently delmparted from Embracer, whose practice of slurping up all the value and leaving empty husks has contributed to the ongoing crisis in the game development industry.

But that’s a different story. For now, there is still hope… not necessarily a new one but hope nonetheless for an excellent Star Wars game.

With the success of Fallen Order and Survivor, hopefully, Saber will hold to the axon, “Always TWO there are…”
