The epic battle of Assassins and Templars is coming to MTG. The only question is: Which side will you choose?

Welcome in, Praetors and Planeswalkers! While we recover from the powerhouse of Modern Horizons 3 and prepare for adorable adventures in Bloomburrow, we have an interim set that looks absolutely fire. It might be a Universes Beyond set, but it feels very at home in the MTG world. I’m talking, of course, about Assassin’s Creed, heading our way in July. These cards from the best-selling series of games are amazing and will slot easily into your Commander decks. If you’re a fan of the game series, you’ll definitely want to pick up a few of these boxes.

Assassins Galore

One of the things that makes the Assassin’s Creed games so good is the protagonists, the titular assassins. From Kassandra of Greece to the Norse warrior Eivor, there’s a wealth of incredible characters to play as. The Universes Beyond set features them in incredible ways, complete with some of their iconic weaponry. Don’t worry if your favorite doesn’t do what you want; several of the assassins will have multiple printings, so you might find a version you love.

Living History

While the Assassin’s Creed games are works of fantasy, that doesn’t mean the real world doesn’t overlap. The protagonists can meet and befriend (or battle) real-world figures, like the inventor Leonardo da Vinci or Queen Cleopatra of Egypt. These historical figures are making their way to MTG alongside the assassins, bringing some awesome combo pieces to the game. Plus, now you can say that Admiral Brass and Captain Storm traveled with Mary Read and Anne Bonny, and that’s pretty cool.

Incredible Reprints

As exciting as all the new stuff is from the set, it’s also packed to the gills with powerful reprints. Cards like Conspiracy and Cover of Darkness are given an Assassin’s Creed flair, and some of the “Sword of” swords are reimagined as heirlooms. My personal favorite is the Sword of Light and Shadow, flavored as the Sword of Damocles, a legendary weapon from both lore and history. I’m definitely going to try to pick up a few copies of these awesome weapons.

You can find out more about the new set, including all the available products, at WeeklyMTG. The set arrives in game stores July 5th.
