The new We Don’t Need Their Scum Squad Pack is introducing a new batch of Bounty Hunters to Star Wars: Shatterpoint.

Calling this new boxed set a “Squad Pack” is a bit of a misnomer. The reasons being is that this box contains some of the most famous (or infamous) Bounty Hunters in all of Star Wars. While they may have worked together at some point in the past, they aren’t exactly a “squad” in the traditional sense. And in game terms, they are all Secondary Units, too. That means to take them you’ll want to slot them into other squads entirely.

With four Secondary Units to cover I’m not going to spend a ton of time dissecting all their rules with this preview. You can see the cards for yourself and for a more nuanced breakdown, AMG has written up quite the guide. But I am going to hit some of the highlights while assuming you’re already familiar with these characters from Star War’s lore.

Starting with the one character you never want to bet against…

Boba Fett, On Contract

I think the biggest hurdle these Bounty Hunters are going to have to climb is their value vs other options. Is Boba Fett worth taking for 4 points vs your “default” secondary unit option in your squad? Looking at this stats and damage…he’s certainly going to make the case for that! While he’s a little bit of a glass cannon in terms of defense, he’s got a potent brick of damage — both ranged and melee. He’s got other abilities to just do damage to targets or cause effects, too. One noteworthy thing about him is also his Hired Hand ability. That means Boba can also get the Galactic Empire OR Scoundrel tag for the game. That’s something only he can do relative to the other Bounty Hunters in the box (who can have a tag, but you’ve got to spend resources on it). Having the Galactic Empire tag does open up some more options, especially for the Empire.

Bossk, Single-Minded Slayer

Bossk is another option from the box and he only cost 3pc to take. It’s worth noting that he can also add a tag to his unit until the end of the turn thanks to Payday. It takes some resources to do it and you can only apply it when you reveal an Order Card. But that could really open up some weird plays. It’s a tag of your choice — so get creative with that! Offense-wise he’s a bit better at ranged than melee and he’s only got 4 defense dice. However, he’s got 8 health and Regeneration…Bossk might be a really solid “value” pick for your Squad.

IG-88B, Created To Succeed

One of the most lethal Droid Bounty Hunters ever, IG-88B is ready to get down to business. For 5pc, he’s on the higher-end of the cost spectrum and that might scare some squads away from him. However, with a built in re-roll thanks to Calculated Plans, he’s quite reliable in combat. With 7 dice at range or melee and a (mostly) damage focused track, he could be a very efficient pick for your Squads.

Dengar, The Demolisher

Dengar is a beefy option for melee. Swinging with 8 dice on offense and 5 die on defense, he’s going to be right at home when things get up close and personal. He also has Payday, similar to Bossk, but unlike Bossk, he’s not about that regen life. Instead, Dengar is more of a “retaliation” type of unit — you hit him, he’s gonna tag you right back. He brings the pain in melee and cannot be ignored.

Again, all of these Bounty Hunters offer some really interesting ways to spice up your squads. So don’t be afraid to experiment with them. This new pack is currently up for pre-order and has a release date of November 1, 2024.
