The Daughters of Khaine are getting their Ghyran rule updates. Time to gather sacrifices in the Realm of Life!

Few armies are as blood-thirsty as the Daughters of Khaine. Or maybe they are just really effective at murder. Either way the Scourge of Ghyran is bringing them two battle formations, three new prayers, and two alternate warscrolls to try out. So let’s see what the Daughters of Khaine are getting on the tabletop.

“Blood! Shadow Magic! Murder! No, we’re not talking about the forces of Chaos – today’s Scourge of Ghyran update is for the Daughters of Khaine, and they’re on the side of Order!”

Scourge of Ghyran Daughters of Khaine Battle Formations

The first battle formation is Coven Zealots. This one is really straightforward and rather useful — a good combo. Once per turn, at the end of any turn, you simple return D3 slain models to each friendly Daughters of Khaine Aelf Infantry unit. If you’re running a bunch of Witch Aelves this one is perfect for you.

The other battle formation is Arena Veterans and it grants the Graceful Elusion rule. This can be triggered during any combat phase and it gives all the Daughters of Khaine Aelf Infantry units a 5+ ward until they use a Fight ability. This is a (hopefully) a way to blunt the enemy blows just enough so when your units DO counter-attack they can make them feel the weight of the surviving members.

Scourge of Ghyran Daughters of Khaine Prayer Lore

“Each of the three prayers deals with a subject that the Daughters of Khaine are passionate about – moving faster, getting hit less, and stabbing their enemies real good. With Shadowstep, a unit disappears into the gloom before reappearing somewhere nearby. Exultation of Murder gives a unit bonuses to wound, and potentially bonuses to hit if your Priest is chanting enthusiastically enough. Lastly, Scáthscale covers your aelves in shimmering serpent skin, making them harder to wound.”

As the text says above these prayers are really targeting what the Daughters of Khaine do well. Personally, I like the Exultation of Murder prayer. The extra +1 to wound is great and if you get the additional +1 to attack with a prayer roll of 9+, well, that unit is now a wood chipper. I would feel bad for anyone that gets targeted by this murder-unit!

Scourge of Ghyran Daughters of Khaine Warscrolls

For the warscrolls there are two for the Daughters of Khaine. First up, Krethusa is getting an alternate option. She comes with the new Blood Ritural Prayer which has a bunch of options you can see below.

Messing with your enemy’s ward saves, stopping an enemy from using commands, or even stopping them from using weapons entirely are all pretty mean. But the meanest part is if you roll a 9+ then all three of these effects apply! And for good measure she’s also got the Gift of Foresight which lets you return a destroyed unit with half their original size back to the tabletop. Not bad at all!

The other warscroll is for the Bloodwrack Shrine which is a classic Daughters of Khaine staple.

“First, the Bloodwrack Medusa has Wizard (2), meaning she can cast twice as many spells as before. One of those spells can be Reflected Agony (that big mirror probably helps), which prevents enemy units from setting up within 12″ of the shrine. Then her party piece: she stares really hard at an enemy unit, paralyses it, then zaps it with her laser eyes.”

Overall, I’d say it’s a pretty gnarly option to take instead of the default option. If nothing else this gives Daughters of Khaine players a new Bloodwrack Shrine variant to try out!

So what do you make of the new DoK Ghyran Rules? Are their prayers going to be answered or will they fall on deaf ears in the Realm of Life?
