Age of Sigmar: Scourge Of Ghyran – Stormcast Eternals Updates

It’s time for the Stormcast Eternals to get their Scourge of Ghyran update. Let’s see what Games Workshop has in store for them!
We’re chugging along with the Scourge of Ghyran updates from GW as today is Day 2 of them. This time around, it’s Sigmar’s finest on deck to get some new rules. What are they getting exactly? They are getting three more heroic traits, three more artefacts, and a new Warscroll for Iridan the Witness. Warhammer Community has shared the lot, so let’s tackle them all!

Stormcast Eternals – Heroic Traits
With these heroic traits, you’ll have access to Legendary Tenacity, Intense Piety, and Hour of Glory. Each one has its own situational goodness to provide. Legendary Tenacity allows a hero to return from destruction. It’s on a 3+ and they heal up D3 wounds from whatever hit would have destroyed them. This ability only works once per game (obviously).
Intense Piety can be used in your Hero Phase, and it’s another 3+ roll. It causes a target Priest of Wizard within range to take -1 to casting or chanting rolls until the start of your next turn. And finally, we have Hour of Glory, which basically allows you to use Their Finest Hour again, and it also grants them an additional 5 to their control score. Personally, I think Hour of Glory is perhaps the most generically useful of the three, seeing as how you can use Their Finest Hour all the time.
Stormcast Eternals – Artefacts of Power
As far as the artefacts go there’s a bit of a theme with these: They are all flag/banner/icon based. As WarCom says, “All three are flag, banner or beacon-based wonders, making for excellent modelling options on your heroes.” And yes, I agree! This could lead to some really cool conversion options if you wanted to stretch your hobby skills.
Rules-wise, we’ve got three more to chew on. Banner of Sigmar allows you to turn off an objective for your opponent if they don’t have any units contesting it. That’s a mean way to shut down a backline objective they might have been counting on. Beacon of Azyr basically allows you to auto-cast a spell or prayer with a score of 7. You can’t use Ritual points to boost it to more than 7 either.

Finally, we have the Sigil of Morrda, which is activated when an opponent issues a command or Rampage ability. Now, the target unit has to be in combat with the unit with the Sigil — so that IS important. This artefact is still potent. It’s a 3+ roll to stop that command or rampage from triggering AND the opponent counts as having used it and still spends the command points. Ouch…
All three of these are useful, but I really think the Sigil of Morrda might be the meanest. Denying commands or Rampage abilities on a 3+ is already good — and this one can be used once per turn. Look out for that one!
Iridan The Witness Warscroll
I’m going to let GW summarize the changes here.
“Entering Ghyran has clearly had a positive effect on them because they now inflict more damage than before, while their resistance to enemy abilities has also increased. So inspirational is their faith that nearby Stormcast from the Ruination Chamber become harder to affect with enemy abilities, and more deadly in combat if Iridan demands it. Lastly (yep, we’re still going!) Iridan’s Morrgryph mount Ariax can now leap over charging foes, leave them confused and disorientated, then peck them in the back for good measure.”
All of those changes seem pretty strong to me! I do wonder if we’ll see an uptick in this version of Iridan the Witness vs their standard version or not. Also, don’t forget that this update is Matched Play Legal, too.
That’s all for the Stormcast Eternals in the Scourge of Ghyran. Check back in tomorrow for more updates!
