It’s time for the home team to get their rules. The Sylvaneth are defending their own turf with these new Scourge of Ghyran rules.

I would not want to march into the Realm of Life and have the Sylvaneth against me. This is quite literally their realm. Alarielle the Everqueen resides here and has the power of life at her disposal. Will that mean the Sylvaneth will be unstoppable? Probably not — just for the sake of game balance. But we’ll see what they can do with their two new battle formations, three new artefacts of power, and two new alternate warscrolls regardless.

“After yesterday’s rotten display from the Maggotkin of Nurgle, you were promised a spread of verdant delights. The Sylvaneth, mercurial masters of Ghyran, are more than happy to deliver, and their envoys have bloomed into wakefulness to join us for today’s post.”

Scrouge of Ghyran Sylvaneth Battle Formations

Kicking things off we have the Wargrove of the Burgeoning battle formation. This one adds the Stirring Life ability to the army. At the End of Any Turn you can pick a non-Hero Sylvaneth unit to get healed/restore slain models. This is very on brand for the Sylvaneth and it’s just one more way for them to regain some losses to their units.

The Wargrove of Everdusk gains the Duskwalk passive. This allows Sylvaneth Heroes to use the Walk the Hidden Paths ability even if another hero has used it that phase. This adds extra movement shenanigans to the army and makes them even harder to pin down. Don’t be shocked to see their heroes coming out at your army from unexpected angles.

Scrouge of Ghyran Sylvaneth Artefacts of Power

“The artefacts of power for the Sylvaneth have grown equally strong. Glamourweave enables a hero to re-roll one hit, one wound and one save per phase. Meanwhile, Acorn of the Ages is a cheeky pocket plant that grows an Awakened Wyldwood right in the middle of the field. Lastly, Ranu’s Lamentiri can be used to unbind an enemy spell and then, just to be spiteful, reflect the magical energy back at the caster. If you’re lucky you might even kill them outright.”

You can see all three of the artefacts of power above. I do like these options and it’s always nice to have these extras on a hero. I think Acorn of the Ages could be useful but placing it on the board requires you to bring extra Awakened Wyldwoods and also have space for it. The Sylvaneth are one of the few armies that really need to invest into their specialty terrain more than any other army. But I guess that’s the price you pay when you’re growing trees on the board instantly!

Scrouge of Ghyran Sylvaneth Warscrolls

For the two warscrolls we get an alternate version of Drycha and the Revenant Seekers.  Drycha has traded in her bee-cannons for even more Slashing Talon attacks. Additionally, her attacks ignore ward rolls entirely! Ouch. To top it off, she has a new twist on her Spirit-Song which is now a spell. It can add +1 to wound rolls and if the target unit is also a non-Kurnoth unit they get +1 to attacks!

The Revenant Seekers got a nice boost with their Scourge Sickles doing a flat 2 damage. They can also grant a unit a Ward save now thanks to their Lamentiri Life Energy ability.

These are nice alternatives but remember that you can’t mix these warscrolls with their original versions. That doesn’t really apply to Drycha as much as it does to the Revenant Seekers. Also, these versions have their own Battle Profile points, too.

Oh and they are of course legal for Matched Play!

Will the Realm of Life’s native defenders manage to hold their own? Or will Ghyran fall to the scourges that approach?!
