Free RPG Day Comes Around June 21st, and brings with it a host of thrilling titles that you can try for free. Check ’em out.

Free RPG Day is less than a month away, which is the terrifying result of time continuing to march forward. I mean seriously, it could take a second and just chill. For like, two minutes (seven weeks). Then we can all agree that time can move forwards again and we’d be cool with it. But, since that isn’t the case, there’s at the very least a fairly stacked Free RPG Day to look forward to this year.

Free RPG Day Promises Peak Performance – Dungeons, Pins, Crawls, and More

Free RPG Day is a longstanding tradition in the tabletop gaming community, going back to the heady days of 2007, when, taking inspiration from Free Comic Book Day, comic/gaming stores around the world participated in the campaign, coordinated by Impressions, an advertising/marketing company. This was a shot in the arm for the industry, which was in a huge slump that might have been made worse by the economic recession of 2008 which hit people so hard we still joke about how they buy avocado toast instead of owning homes.

Instead, audiences found a wide variety of titles. And of varying quality. But there was no mistaking the sheer expanse of possibilities that you could find in RPGs thanks to Free RPG Day. And now, in 2025, both ICv2 and Gaming Days (the current coordinator of the event, as of 2019), have teased a look at the upcoming offerings.

As reported by ICv2, there’s quite a bit to look forward to, including pins of the D&D cartoon characters, produced by Sirius Dice, samples of upcoming or ongoing Kickstarter projects, even new adventures for D&D competitors, like Tales of the Valiant. It truly is a sampling of products from across the industry:

“There are well over two dozen items in the [Free RPG Day preview press kit] including sample dice and figures, promo cards, and offerings for Nightfell, Otherscape, Starfinder, Pathfinder, the Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game, The Expanse, Arkham Horror, Star Trek, Fallout, Dreams and Machines, Wires in the Woods, Obojima, Monty Python and the Holy Grail (really not a role playing game), Basic Roleplaying, DragonBane, Root and G I Joe/Transformers.  There are also 10 Baldur’s Keep miniatures from WizKids in the kit, and Level 1 included its sixth indie RPG anthology.”

Personally, I’m looking forward to the “leisure fantasy” of A Great Offering, an adventure for Obojima’s cozy take on D&D 5th Edition that purports inspiration from Legend of Zelda as well. Or dig deep into Chaosium’s Basic Roleplaying Ruleset with the free Quickstart rules. There’s even a tournament adventure for Free League’s Dragonbane.
