Huge LEGO ‘Star Wars’ Battle of Hoth Has Over 250,000 Pieces – Is Super Cool
This massive LEGO Battle of Hoth from Star Wars includes thousands of pieces and tons of easter eggs.
The Battle of Hoth is one of the most iconic scenes in Star Wars. It was the first time, and still one of the relatively rare times, that we get to see a major ground battle in Star Wars. It introduced a ton of super cool vehicles. And, spoilers, the good guys lose. All of that really set the tone for The Empire Strikes Back leading many to rate it as the best Star Wars movie of them all.
From its bleak and beautiful setting to the AT-ATs and Snowspeeders, it’s a transfixing scene. And it’s one that was pivotal in the lore, setting off a chain of events that would transform the galaxy. It shows that the war has gone from small surgical strikes to outright battles, and just how cool those can look! I don’t think there is a Star Wars fan who doesn’t love the battle.
LEGO Battle of Hoth
Now this iconic battle has been tackled by several builders in the past, and there are a few official sets showing parts of it. However, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a LEGO Battle of Hoth diorama on the same scale or as awesome as this MOC by brickplumber (Mark B, who you can find here and here). This crazy MOC is 17 ft long and has over 250,000 pieces. It details both parts of the battle outside as well as a lot of the interior of Echo Base. It’s packed with mini-figs, vehicles, and lights. It’s also got just tons and tons of easter eggs.
This build is just a really massive and impressive work. The main action outside includes 3 huge custom AT-ATs (each around 6,000 pieces) attacking the front of Echo Base and its trench line. There are a number of T-47 Snowspeeders fighting back, as well as Imperial and Rebels ground troops and gun positions. You’ve also got classic parts of the base such as the shield generator and ion cannon.
Moving inside you’ll see a massive hanger with more Snowspeeders, X-Wings, and a massive Falcon ready for takeoff. Corridors and rooms carved through the mountain show more of the base. There are a ton of classic scenes from the movie on display. There are also a bunch of easter eggs and fun touches. You’ve got billboards (non-canon) a movie theater, Santa, and other fun details.
Mark posted this video showing off a slightly older version of the MOC a few years ago. You can see for instance that is has less explosions, but this does a great job of showing off some of the lighting. While you can find some newer videos from conventions, this was the one I could find by the builder himself.
