Star Wars: Legion – Rebel Commandos Rule Previews

Take the fight to the Galactic Empire and beyond with the updated Rebel Commandos Unit Expansion for Star Wars: Legion.
The Rebels were a much smaller force against the power of the Galactic Empire. Typically, means they needed to fight a bit dirty to even the odds. That’s where the Rebel Commandos came into play. Today, we’re getting a look at the unit that’s ready to dive behind enemy lines and cause lots of problems. And hopefully live to do it again. Here come the Rebel Commandos!
“Experts in infiltration and sabotage, the Rebel Commandos take on the most dangerous operations the Rebel Alliance can devise, deep behind enemy lines, striking where the Galactic Empire least expects. “
Rebel Commandos In Star Wars: Legion
The Rebel Commandos unit is a Special Forces unit in Star Wars: Legion. That means, for typical games, you have a limit on how many you can take. In this case, 3 total. While these units are few in number their impact on the battle can be much larger. That’s due to the extra firepower they can bring! They also have a lot of upgrade options to work with in addition to great innate offense, defense, and mobility tools.
As you can see they come with Low Profile, Scout 2, and Sharpshooter 1. This makes for a deadly unit as they can zip into position, take some cover-negating/reducing shots, and then fall back. Also, that Low Profile cancels the first hit on any return fire, too. Considering they have black dice on a range 3 attack this unit is looking to cause problems!
Rebel Commandos Strike Team
Another option is to load them up as the Rebel Commando’s Strike Team. This version is part of a Rebel Commandos Detachment. That means you have to bring one along with a Rebel Commando unit. They also bring the Heavy Weapon Team key word. Along with more upgrade options, too.
They still have the same Low Profile, Scout 2, and Sharpshooter 1 key words as well. But real benefit of this unit is that the heavy weapon basically is the unit leader and that can lead to a great amount of flexibility. The unit box allows you to run one of each unit also!
Now, the Rebel Commandos are already a solid pick. However, once you customize them with additional options they get even deadlier.
Rebel Commando Upgrades
In terms of Heavy Weapon options, we’re getting the DH-447 Sniper and the Proton Charge Saboteur. These two options have vastly different roles. The Sniper clearly wants to stay back and pick people off at medium to long range. On flip side, the Proton Charge Saboteur really wants to close the gap as the attack can be used in melee — and it’s ready to absolutely shred armor!
But offense isn’t the only thing the Rebel Commandos have access to. There’s also other upgrades like Endurance or Emergency Stims. Both are there to help this unit stay in fighting shape on the tabletop.
The Rebel Commandos unit box is currently up for pre-order. It has a shipping date of May 30, 2025.
